Nebraska at Michigan State today

You boys may have a point. But do those numbers account for MSU being at full strength and at home? My original point was that if MSU is healthy and clicking when we play them I don't like our chances. But I will rescind my "slim" prediction.

It's starting to look like MSU might not be at full strength by then. Here's to hoping they shut Appling down for the regular season and then beat Michigan to stop the bleeding a little.

I think he will get the award for the guy who never sweats.

How can a guy who plays over 30 minutes in an intense game, and is constantly moving without the basketball, and playing tough D NEVER break a sweat? Is he that well conditioned or does he have some kind of a strange medical condition?

The last player that I recall never breaking a sweat was that fast moving little guard for LSU about 20 years ago. I can't recall his name, but I think he changed his name after he went pro. Anyone know who I'm taling about?

He seems to be made of plastic or porcelain. It does seem weird that he never seems to drop a bead of sweat. The LSU player could be Chris Jackson, who changed his religion to Muslim and called himself Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. He refused to stand for the National Anthym and called The American Flag a symbol of oppression.....

Lou Alcindor changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and never seemed to have problems with making millions living in the USA.....

Yep, that was the guy. Chris Jackson. Never saw him sweat one little bead in a full game.

*eye roll sigh* Who exactly calculated they have a 30-40% chance of winning in east Lansing? You? I'd put it at closer to 10-15% if and when MSU is at full strength.

10-15%?? Where are you getting these numbers from? Oh you're making them up out of thin air.. got it.

Edit: I see you have rescinded the 10% prediction. All good.

The MSU team Nebraska played is much different than the MSU team Iowa will play in 2 weeks. MSU gets Dawson back and Appling will have more time to recover by then. Plus Payne is rounding back in shape. That game in East Lansing much more difficult than Nebraska just played. Iowa hasn't won in East Lansing since 1993 and those loses are by an average of 18.3 ppg. So not even close.

Hate to break it to you but the fact that we have lost by 18pts a game since 1993 means nothing. We also had only won once since the '80s at Illinois...how did that work out?

The MSU team we will play will be very similar to the one that played Neb. Appling will be healthier, but from what I've read, Dawson will not be back until the BTT. With that being said, MSU won't be overlooking us and should actually show up.

Despite having Izzo as coach, one of the best of all time, and I realize that many around here hate him, however their confidence must be in tatters, not as bad as Indiana feels right now, but almost shattered. This, along with the injuries might really increase our chances of a win at Lansing. We were blown out there two years ago when they resorted to ThugBall after being beaten at Iowa, Fran's first year by 20.

There is a possibility they will try to play harder to get back on track and increase the chances of another injury. There is now a crack in their reputation of invincibility at Lansing, and this year we can play with almost anybody in America when we are playing to our capacity and ability. Fran should have the Lads ready to play, one reason being it could be for a tie for first or second place in the Big. Michigan isn't consistent ever since the bloody slaughter at Carver. We exposed the way to take Staukaus out of the game, and other teams seemed to notice.....

Izzo is very good and may be able to get them back in shape without more injuries, but it is not certain. I thought we had another game at Nebraska and I am glad that I was wrong....

I knew Penn State would be very tough and we pulled it out. Fran's substitution patterns seemed to work very well. They were exhausted. I love to hear the losing coaches refer to us as an elite team, which we can be with composure and high concentration from start to finish. This team is not the team we have sent to East Lansing in the past few years, when we played very well under Fran a time or two. I remember an 8 point loss in a closely contested game one year.....

They were lucky to win at Carver in OT, as poorly as we played and they know it. The refs hardly ever call a last second foul especially in OT and let MSU win. Mike G was slammed hard on his last second layup. No call and they escape winning one of our worst games this year, at Michigan and Ohio State at Carver were very poorly played games for us. Fran and the team have learned how to finish games in a positive fashion, and don't forget we have gotten better every year toward the end of regulation....

Unfortunately we now have a big bullseye on our backs now. The middle is crowded and a few teams could make the tournament if they win the majority of their games and a win over the Hawks will be a quality win.....

I like our chances at MSU. We just have to beat Indiana next, and they will be desperate for a win, if nothing else to save Crean's job. Wisconsin is playing as good as any team in the Big right now, and we must beat them at Carver. We should have all the motivation we need....

Hawkeyes now.....

I think they'll get it together eventually. Whether that means not until the BTT or even the NCAA, I don't know. But I think this MSU team is a lot tougher mentally than the team they had a few years ago when Kalin Lucas was hurt; that team had no leadership at all and just never recovered from losing Lucas. When healthy, this is Izzo's best team in quite some time, and not just because of the talent level.

Considering how this season has gone for State so far, what makes you think anyone on their roster (except Dawson because he won't play) will certainly be healthier then than they are now?

That no call on mike was nothing compared to the no call on Basabe at the end of regulation. I agree that its tough to get a call at the end of the game but when you slap a guy on the arm from behind when he's shooting you have to call it. You also have to call a goaltending when a guy puts his hand in the net. End of the game or not.

If the refs make either one of those calls we are tied with Michigan and one game up on MSU right now. I'm still annoyed by that.

I'm still in shock how D-1 Refs let Appling take a triple jump from the 3 pt arc to shoot a lay up and did so in full view of all....how do 3Refs just stare and watch that go by???

that's a travel call in the NBA all-star game

Did you see Ray Rice's fast break layup against Nebraska? He covered 30 feet without a dribble and got called for nothing. There was a similar instance at the end of a Wake Forest game this year. It's not just Appling.

edit: sorry, it was a dunk. Here it is: http://www.illinoisloyalty.com/i/n/illini-huskers-02.gif
