Nebraska at Illinois

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned was the lack of tape on Illinois. Frost said multiple times he guessed wrong about the looks he was going to get from Bielema. Frost’s team is inept and beat themselves no doubt, but Illinois isn’t exactly a contender.

More than likely you’re going to be seeing both these teams fight it out for the bottom of the division.
Yeah that wasn't an Xs and Os kind of game so much as just the Jimmys and Joes executing. NE damn near came back when they had no business even being in it. They just made way too many mistakes. IL barely had the man power on D. When NE wasn't shooting themselves in the foot they could move the ball on them.

Such a funny pillow fight to watch. I don't know what it'll take to get Frost fired with that 20 large of a buyout but we may just get to see

I do think Bielema will improve their program, though. Which is good for the Big Ten west. He's been in the college game a hell of a long time and he knows the Big Ten better than about anyone else who was looking for a job. Nebraska actually should have hired him instead of Scott Flop.

Lovie's a good coach but he was more of an NFL guy. In the college world you have to really get a culture thing going and get a bunch of support from fans/students/schools. It's just a weird dynamic compared to the pro game. Bielema has the players and fans believing in themselves with this first game now, and if he can string a few more together he might have something.

And just so everyone remembers, Illinois' coach has a fuckin' Tigerhawk tattooed on his body.

Yeah that's a homecoming that'll work out. Expectations are lower so that helps. But yeah he'll improve it because he'll have more local support. He'll get more IL kids to stay home then Lovie could ever get. Plus he's not afraid to mix it up in Iowa WI etc recruiting wise. They more then gave Lovie a fair shot at it he's just not a good fit as you said for the college/recruiting game.

I mean if IL noticeably improves this next yr or two compared to NE cratering they may as well just kick the dirt on Frost and that program now

What would you engrave on his tombstone?

Honestly, I think he'll hurt Wisky in recruiting as much as Iowa. I could see him really making the orange people into a decent power in the West, something to challenge Wisky's domination on a yearly basis. Tigerhawk tattoo or not, he could retire there.

Yeah it may take him awhile but to say that couldn't happen would be wrong. He most certainly will prioritize recruiting around Chicago more and Wisconsin. That's where his bread will be buttered along with the St Louis area if he can get in there. We've done a good job getting some kids from there so he'll directly compete with us on them. Bielema won't be a push over he knows what he's doing.
