Nebraska and travel to Gator Bowl

They canceled their charters to the bowl game...WOW. How Herby Husker and Little Debby have fallen. Quite a vote of confidence for their program huh? Wonder what their recruits think of that...no fan-base presence at the bowl game.

Man if their attendance for the bowl game is really poor that says just how much the fans have given up on this team, thinking this team is really good and fun to watch.

Nebby thinks they were just a few plays away from a 10 win season...reality is they were closer to a few plays away from a 5-6 win season.

I don't begrudge Nebraska. Its pretty sad to see a once fanatical traveling fan base sink into this kind of funk. The Big Ten needs more good teams, while that should include Iowa, I think it has to include PSU, Nebraska and Michigan. (F - Wisconsin and MSU).

With gas prices being affordable all the Nebby fans are driving. Some are probably car pooling, as to not put unnecessary mileage on their ford F150s.

I kid. I kid. I wonder if this is a sign the fans feel slighted for being passed up for the BWW's bowl?

The Gator Bowl stinks. It's played in Jacksonville, which makes Marshalltown look nice by comparison. Other than Northwestern's trip there last year, I don't think any Big Ten fan base ever gets excited about it. I'm not surprised Nebraska fans ain't happy.

Wife and I have been to J-Ville. Nice city.
The stadium is probably a dump, but so is the stadium in Orlando.

Now, I've been to 2 Sun Bowls and El Paso makes Ottumwa look nice by comparison.

Too bad the ol' bugeaters have such fair weather fans. I am going to enjoy seeing Georgia play a home game in this one.

Love it. How banana brains no still had a job is beyond me. Next year at Kinnick we beat them into the ground.

I've been reading a number of forums, its surprising to see how many fans seem unhappy or meh about their bowls.

Next year we even up the series with them at 2-2 since them joining the big with a massive beat down at Kinnick. Sooo can't wait. I will be there to see it regardless of cost.

The BWW bowl took a Michigan team with a worse record than Nebraska.
I never thought I'd see the day where Nebraska would fall in the bowl pecking order.

A good read on the BWW, Outback, CapOne came about with the SEC teams.

good article. about half way though, I forgot where I saw the link and almost posted it again. Nebby got hosed. UM is a bigger draw. We've been bumped by big blue in the past as well.

Watching a lot of midwest football in my day it has been obvious that the bug eaters have been a slow yet steady decline. I feel they made the confrence move to re-energize the fan base and it didn't have the success rate they had hoped for. Add that to Bo making an emberassment of the program and the Athletics office all failing to do anything. They are just throwing money and resources at the problem looking for a quick fix. Maybe playing OU will make them feel better when that comes back about.

The decline of Nebraska is kind a microcausm(sp) of the direction of college football over the last 10 years. The historic powers outside of the south are shawos of their former states and the the players in the south have all the control on the direction of the game. Cities and schools in the north need to find an answer to this trend or we will need rules and events set up to further strengthen the stronghold in the south.

That, and the rematch with Georgia doesn't help at all. We're getting kindof bummed by all of these bowl game rematches or return bowl games the past few years. NU v. Miami/FSU in the Orange Bowl is one thing, but Georgia in J-Ville, meh.

It also doesn't help that that charter cost somewhere in the area of $1700-1800, I heard. I spent a week on the beach at an all-inclusive in Cancun for that kind of money.

Iowa's charter is $2234 for a single. To my knowledge, they are selling rapidly.

We were bumped by Big Blue in the 1996 season, and then Iowa bumped Big Blue in 2005.
