NDSU - Are They That Good?

NDSU struggled in 2 wins before beating Iowa. There is a disturbing trend with the Hawks that started last year. One has to go back to the Maryland game to find a team that Iowa beat and really dominated stats (outside of a very weak ISU this year). Iowa has struggled to win the statistic battle. OK the Hawks did out yardage IU last year, but it certainly didn't feel that was (same with IL).

I'm wondering how valuable CJ really was last year. He was hurt last year, but this year I wonder about his knee. If you are throwing off a sore knee, passes can go high. Seems to me that NDSU defended knowing his knee was suspect.. Naturally it was some because they also knew they weren't likely to get torched deep.

Look at Miami of Ohio this year and their total offensive yards. They're 0-3

Iowa - 424
Eastern Illinois - 317
Western Kentucky - 424

While I agree with a lot of this, its hard IMO to use total offense as a legitimate stat when starters aren't playing a full 60 minutes.

It was a one time fluke, they got all the lucky breaks but 1 in addition to a bunch of bogus calls. Including taking away a 60 yard run with a phantom holding call. Iowa wins this game 99% of the time. If these teams get garbage stats after Iowa calls of the guards that does not really matter.

It could have been Ball State and a KF-coached Iowa team would have looked at one of the OOC games as having "cooties".

Lose to Miami = wins against ISU and NDSU.

Lose to ISU = win against NDSU.

Miami of Ohio was a weird game because we got up 21 early and Kirk went Kirk. There really isn't much you can take away from that game.

ISU was a total domination which more than likely says a lot about how good we can play when clicking. It doesn't matter that they suck because they always suck and that rarely happens.

Its tough to know yet what happened with NDSU. There is a 50% chance they exposed us and a 50% chance it was a classic example of a good team not being ready for an inferior opponent. If it's the first one, we're screwed. If it's the second one, we can still win the West.

Knee injuries change from day to day and ISU is not yet well coached and very deficient.

I think NDSU is that good. That said, I also think we our share to allow a good team to stay in the game (and at times dominate us) and escape Kinnick with a win.

Wuut? Doesn't change the fact that CJ threw the balls on a dime in very tight windows, regardless of who the opponent was. Doesn't matter if the jersey said Alabama on the front or ISU on the front, the players were still in good position and covering. Sometimes I really wonder about some of you people and your logic.

You obviously know little about knee injuries. You don't realized the difference between 4/5 stars and 2/3 stars (AL and ISU) is about speed and separation? It's a game of inches. And you question others logic? Got a mirror?

Theyre very well coached and have good enough players to compete. That staff took the Iowa staff to school Saturday with their preparation

Yes, and Iowa didn't play very well. Each team earned what they got. I hope they win their 6th straight this year. Not because they beat Iowa, but after seeing it, I really like how they play and totally respect that program!

Even if a 5 star somehow defended the perfect throws he made, they were still perfect throws. He had an overthrow and an inaccurate sideways throw to Vandeberg early. Other than those two early throws, the rest of his play was pretty standard for him, which is pretty darn good with some mixed in brilliance.

For an FCS school they are good, the 2 teams they beat were both highly ranked FCS teams. But Iowa shouldn't be playing teams like this, nothing but bad can come out of it.

So Barta got his game against his alma mater, I hope he's happy.

It's pretty stupid of you to try and win arguments with such stupid statements. To denigrate your level, you comments about speed and quickness not being important are:::: stupid.

One cannot compare CJ passing to relatively slow by D1 receivers to relatively slow defenders at ISU as NFL caliber. To make such a claim is just: STUPID.

CJ last year proved he could throw into tight places. I would guess that mostly came from throwing when not expected due to his field awareness. CJ's field awareness and daredevilness is looking more like the major key to last year than thought.

With a sore knee passes go high due to throwing more from the body. I'm guessing it was more sore last Saturday than against ISU. Plus NDSU probably has more speed and they played to keep the receiver in front. CJ missed a number of wide opens to the TE that may have gone for score. Not typical of him. I seriously doubt he had a bad game. Iowa was also missing Wadley's speed, which I understood well that Daniels in not the answer against speed. He's simply not that fast. Compared to ISU he is.

If he had such a perfect game, Iowa doesn't lose. There is a reason they didn't throw until 3rd down.

I think CJ is a great quarterback. One of the best at Iowa ever. He's in a lot of pain when throwing. I can about guarantee that. I just didn't see him play the same as he did for so many games last year. A team that struggled to stop 2 other FCS teams doesn't have that great of D. No way.
