NCAA Tourney is fun, but...

I love when people say teams don't play defense in the NBA. Pure comedy. That is what separates the contenders from the pretenders in that league. You probably have to go back to the late 80s LA teams to find a team that won the title that didn't play outstanding defense.

If you're asking me what? I am in agreement about NBA and defense. And I don't get why people don't like watching superior talent and superior play. Don't get me wrong...I love college basketball but the NBA is a much much better brand of basketball.

The only reason that I even watch college basketball at all is because I have a connection to Iowa. Objectively, college basketball is terrible basketball. The NBA is a fantastic league. The only sport I enjoy more than pro basketball is MLB.

Do you really think the quality of ball @ the college level is terrible? Out of curiosity, what's terrible about it?

Will now be ignored by OOTH.

Many missed open jumpers and too much contact allowed on the perimeter seems to be an issue. Plus, I kind of hate zone defense (though Iowa was successful running it this year.) perfectly executed rotations and well played man to man defense is really fun to watch.

MLB is dumb because it doesn't give home field to the best team through the regular season, and gives wild card teams the first two games at home.

Plus they tie in a completely non-playoff-unrelated event (All Star Game) to determine which league gets home field advantage. Also, flip-flopping the DH rule every year is stupid too. Standardize the two league for crying out loud.

The offense, especially the shooting, the poor offensive coaching, the terrible officiating, the extremely high number of charges, the lack of many skilled big men. There's just no way that college can compare to the NBA except when you factor in the emotional ties people have to schools.

Wow is this stupid.

The BCS is absolutely a better way to determine who is the best team instead of a single elimination team. There's never anywhere close to 68 teams that can legitimately claim they are the best team in the country. A UConn team that went 9-9 in Big East play has already proven they aren't the best team in the conference. Michigan isn't the best team in the B10, they proved that over 18 games and a conference tournament this year, winning the tournament is just about who is the hottest at that time and more important who gets favorably match ups.

And there's absolutely no question that the NBA's best of seven format is the most accurate way to determine the best team.

NBA does play defense. The offense meh.

Isolation until about 6-7 seconds left. Drive to the lane. If no help, shoot; if help comes throw it to open man who shoots or if defense rotates then drive and a foul is called (every other time down floor). This happens with different names, at different spots on the floor. Repeat this process for 48 minutes.

Not saying the players don't do amazing things and it can get more intriguing in the late playoff rounds. But it is the same thing ad infinitum.

Said nobody but you ever.

Eh, not really. There are quick shots on fast breaks (a good shot), shots off of screens (usually plays last really quickly because guys are actually good at setting screens and running off of screens in the pros and there's no reason look for a good shot for 35 seconds like they do in college) and there are guys who can score in the post.

Sure, some great players can get points off isolation but a good/great defense destroys any team who runs only isolation all game.

I've read before that the reasoning behind the best teams not getting home field for the World Series has to do with not having enough time to reserve enough hotel rooms. I don't know if I buy that.

It's a silly way to determine the best team and it kind of cheapens the game. Basketball is just too easily influenced by one night of poor shooting, unfamiliarity with a gimmicky system, or questionable officiating.

The NBA system is so much better for determining the best team and it isn't even close. College hoops' post-season is good for betting and the excitiement of both a chance of upset and single-elimination.

The best teams don't win the NCAA tourney every year....you might even say it doesn't happen in most years. The NCAA tournament as a spectacle is all about the first weekend...after that, people would just as soon kick cinderella to the curb with cab money. Those first four days are bliss.....the rest? Rarely lives up to the hype.

Let's not forget about the fact that a lot of really good teams get left out. See, e.g., Iowa this year. What's our KenPom ranking today?

Again it ain't about determining the best team. It's about determining a deserving champion, and it does that nicely.
