NCAA Tourney is fun, but...

They both do. A team that wins 6 games in a row in a single elimination tournament is clearly the best in the field.

Likewise, a team in the NHL or NBA that wins 4 best of 7 series in a row is the best in that league.

Your first statement clearly wrong as any team can have an off night in a single elimination tournament. But if they had a 5 or 7 game series they can bounce back and make adjustments.

I'm always astounded at the anti-NBA comments, because it tells me how many ppl are still not watching the league!

Seriously - some of you should tune in & give it a try. I think you would be astounded how different it is from your preconceived notions.

Neither is true, it goes the same for a single game or a series. Teams can be off for four games just as easy as one.

Again, no perfect system, I like all playoff formats except for the BCS and that is even when it goes into effect as the current system has been a joke for years, or has it, it is almost a single elimination every week, not in all cases, but for some teams.

I don't buy that the best teams win in series because no matter what it still comes down to how one team matches up against the other, plain and simple. Otherwise, the No. 1 seeds would win all the time in that case as well.

Momentum, match ups and catching a team at the right time determine who wins in a lot of cases, not just having really good players.

I still watch little to no NBA in the regular season, but have been watching more and more playoff basketball, it is night and day better than it was when I completely stopped watching. The young players in the game today are better and more prepared especially since there is no leap straight to the NBA, it has weeded out guys in big ways.

The NBA is getting more talented players in the game and on every roster and yeah there are still some bad teams out there, but the younger players are not failing at such a rapid rate as they were before. Think about the "older" guys in the league, they aren't any good. Yeah, there is Kobe, Duncan and Dirk...but the dropoff in production is huge when you start looking at it.

Listen up mouth breathers, no playoff system on earth is perfect. None always determine the best team. Some get closer than others and some suck the sweat of my nuts (I'm looking at you BCS). All you can ask of a playoff system is that they select a deserving team and there is no doubt the NCAA basketball tournament does that.

The BCS does a much better job of determining the best team than the NCAA tournament.

LOL, the NBA and NHL post seasons are designed to make revenue not determine the best team. That's why half the league gets into the post season and all the series are multiple games. The NCAA tournament is essence a six game playoff series featuring 68 teams and all games are sudden death. It's simple and awesome.

Aren't you supposed to be a sportswriter?

And the NCAA Tournament (and its expansion and now 4-network coverage) is designed to do what, exactly?

You can argue that the leagues put too many teams in. But it produces the most accurate results because of the best of 7 format. I could give two ***** about the money and logistics involved. The best team wins more often in the leagues with best of 7 series than they do in the one and done format.

Its a single elimination tournament designed to select a national champion.

There is no question that the NCAA tourney gets more right than wrong.... but one major flaw in the system, is when a Liberty gets in with a losing record over some more deserving team. You have to some how come up with a handicapping system or something, that doesn't in effect change a team's body of work for the season(30 games), to a 3-4 game season which is the conference tourney.

No ou don't. That's exactly why makes it great. Prior to the conference tourneys very team has a chance t win the whole ******* thing, and it has to be taken away from you on the court. Not by the pollsters, or commuter ranking, or by virtue of what conference you play in. It has t be taken from you on the floor. If those other teams wanted in they should have been better.

I can go to any park down town and watch showboating, fighting, and no defense.

George was a chucker and the NBA is full of Georges.

I love it when people say the NBA plays no defense. It's the equivalent of admitting they have no ******* clue what they are talking about and everything else they say about a subject can safely be ignored.

Ask Adam Morrison if they play D in the league. Dude went from being be of the bet scorers in a decade in college to not being able to get a shot off and washing out in three years. The thought that the NBA doesn't play defense is just teh stoopid.
