NCAA Board Approves New Power 5 Autonomy Structure

Your argument has validity. This could be Pandora's box or help level the playing field. Essentially all of the SEC minus Vanderbilt pay their players, along USC, Oregon in the Pac 12, Florida St, North Carolina and Miami, (in whatever crap conference they are all in) and of course, OSU, OU, Texas in the "Big 8". We don't need to mention O$U and Michigan in the Big 10, but I did anyway.

We can now do that too, the only downside is Iowa is like the poorest Big 10 school, so we may not have the pocketbook to keep up.

Does this mean that SEC can make rules separate from the B1G and vise versa, or does it mean that if SEC wants a specific rule then all 5 divisions must agree on it?

Umm...no.

From the article:

"Commissioners and school leaders from the power conferences have until Oct. 1 to create a wish list of issues they want to handle on their own. Any items that make the wish list would have to be approved by at least three of the five power-conference reps and at least 12 of the 20 presidents or chancellors on an expanded board of directors. Then, one representative from each of the 65 schools in the power-five leagues and three student-athletes from each conference would vote on each item. Passage would require 60 percent of the 80 votes and a simple majority of support from schools in at least three of the five conferences or a simple majority of all votes (41) and a simple majority from schools in four of the five leagues."

Thank you. Wife and I had our first child last week. Haven't slept in days it seems.

Actually I didn't read the ABC article, I read the ESPN article and there was no mention of this rule.

This is what the top 50 NCAA teams are valued at. Iowa is at 11. This should translate into not being very poor at all.

Why do you think we are the poorest ? I think we do pretty well

I see Notre Dame at #2 yet they are technically not in a conference. I wonder what this means for them, or will there just be a separate rule for them like everything else?

Fantastic question. I think they should be considered outside of the 5 power conferences.

I am actually a ND fan and I agree. They need to get off their *sses and join the B1G. If they don't then tough chit.

Now, to the topic at hand. I think paying college players is going to ruin college football, depending on how it shakes out. We could see hold outs, roster changes weeks before a season starts for a better offer. Terrible. They are taking "cheating" and making it the norm. Do you think certain schools WON'T pay about an agreed upon scale? Bad, bad thing.

Congrats on being a dad. It gets better as time goes by and sleep will come. Then come the teen years and sleep maybe challenged on e again. The twenties roll in and sometimes those kids open their eyes like a new born puppy and discover BILLS that have to be paid and suddenly an appreciation for mom and dad is developed. Enjoy every minute of the little one as time goes by like a dream. I hope your already training that youngster to be the best by donning on hawkeyes gear. :)

I was referring to our endowment, not football based revenue. We are last in endowment, if you exclude our recent adds of Maryland and Rutgers. Maybe endowment is irrelevant in this conversation.

I could imagine a world where 4 of the 5 get fed up with SEC's approach and just ditch SEC and leave them to their own circle jerk.

Anyone that advocated for a playoff(I was against it) better realize that the playoff made this happen much faster. How can officials go for the money and not spread it around to the players?

I am for cost of education stipend....used to have laundry money back in the 50s...nothing new here. I like guaranteed schollys...Iowa does that anyway....make Bama do it.

The king is dead! Long live the king, looks like with autonomy, EVERYTHING about college sports will change, I am hoping all the changes are positive for the students, as well as everyone else.

Lets hope the new boss is not the same as the old boss. LETS DO SOMETHING BIG FOR THE KIDS.
