NCAA Board Approves New Power 5 Autonomy Structure

Getting rid of the NCAA is a great thing, they are the ones who caused the current situation by turning a blind eye to everything while they got rich.

Now that you have guys like Delany and Bowlsby in the drivers seat they aren't just going to let the sec keep on as usual. Not a chance.

There's going to have to be a real governing body just like every other sport. With real rules and real penalties whether the Sec likes it or not.

There's already been veiled shots about cheating coming out of the media days, because they knew this was right around the corner.

Actually this decision lets the $EC do whatever they want. Piles of cash at HS QBs doorstep -- youbetcha!

BS. Who's going to stop SEC from offering money to other divisions to support their rules or let things slide? Nobody. They just opened a whole can of worms. You don't let the loons run the asylum.

Lol. Not allot of big picture thinkers here.

I'm glad the people pulling the strings on this aren't nearly as stupid as some seem to think and in fact are quite the opposite.

Oh but they are that stupid and crooked and selfish and money hungry.

What's a division?

You think they would seriously attempt to bribe other conferences to let them cheat? That's completely absurd mostly because there would be no motivation for another conference to accept such a thing. Everyone has plenty of cash flow with the tv deals, its about being competitive, just like the NFL.

You guys need to get a grip and realize the people pulling the strings on this didn't get to where they are in life by being stupid.

They got to where they are by being upstanding gentlemen who have never cheated or paid players under the table.

Can't tell if you're joking or stupid...

I cant belive they are giving ND a pass on this. This is there chance to tell ND to join a conference or have no one to play. I have been waiting for this day. Cant belive it

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/s...d-votes-allow-autonomy-five-power-conferences

From the article:
The top 64 schools in the richest five leagues (the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, SEC and Pac-12) plus Notre Dame can submit their own legislation by Oct. 1 and have it enacted at the January 2015 NCAA convention in Washington, D.C.

I guess the Fighting Irish will never have to join a conference.

I know. Why are they agreeing to this ?
I have no idea, I would say money, but I don't know what the power 5 have to gain by allowing ND to remain independent? Somebody who knows more about the subject will have to chime in.

So you think university presidents and conference commissioners are paying players under the table?

Wow you have no clue what you're talking about and no grasp of the situation.

The NCAA wasn't stopping anyone from cheating. Bowlsby specifically brought this up obviously because they intend to come up with a better enforcement entity.

Cheaters are always going to find a way to cheat.

I would just like to see some efforts to level the playing field a little. Items like 4 year schollys at all schools, no over-signing and stiff penalties for excessive turnover to punish coaches who force players out. Maybe you lose the players scholly for an additional season or two if the player does not graduate or something similar.

If a program has serious violations of the new rules then any coaches involved are barred from coaching at another power 5 school for 5 years or must coach without pay for the duration of the penalty? Put a premium on doing things above board.

This is so messed up....

I guess if you're special, you can have your cake, and that cake can have extra frosting, and you can eat it too.

This stuff will take quite a few years to get where it's going.

Relieving the NCAA of its duties was just the necessary first step.

Notte Dame will most likely have to join a conference sometime down the road even though they won't like it. if the others force their hand they will have no choice.
