For instance, Syracuse is smaller but the region is much larger with tons of population within 2 hours.

In Big Ten States alone, Des Moines would rank as the 14th largest metro area.

I think this is wishful thinking. With probably 50% more people coming to each first round site than the current load, smaller cities that barely make the cut now are almost certainly going to be removed from future consideration.

I am pretty sure that the Qwest Center can hold more people and Omaha is quite a bit bigger than Des Moines with a ton of hotel options downtown. If the city can host the CWS for two weeks, it can also handle an NCAA regional for four days.

Boise is bigger than Des Moines (although not by a ton.)

Spokane is a bit smaller, but still comparable. Bigger question is how many people within a two hour drive from Spokane and Boise... bet its more than Des Moines. Those are also the two biggest cities in the interior northwest.

Have to disagree. Des Moines is not too small ... I work downtown and the biggest issue has been hotel space. It is not about Des Moines being too small of a market. There are well over 500,000 people in the Des Moines metro and closer to one million in the "Golden Circle" (which includes those within 1.5 hour or so of Des Moines). I am very confident Des Moines will be a first round site within the next 10 years.
