There has to be more to this story. Such as a disorder that requires him to go urgently when he has to go. The article did say that he was running on the field. One time is understandable, but if it is a repeated or common occurrence, bring a bag. Or maybe he was making a statement about their football program.

My daughter played volleyball with a girl who had a bladder disorder.

When they switched sides of the net the other team would occasionally mop the floor with their knee pads.

They thought it was water. They were only partially correct.

EDIT: You mentioned that he may have been running on the field. That's not as far fetched as it may seem. I've had emergencies while jogging and found the nearest cornfield. Anything else would be too much information but when you're two miles from the vehicle?
