My Thoughts on Iowa's win v Illinois & latest B1G Bracket Projection

If Iowa gets that 5 seed and plays Wisconsin, I think they will beat the Badgers. And that could get them a 6 or 7 seed in The Dance.

If we win out and Purdue loses 2, they have the tie breaker. That is unless OSU can somehow win out by beating Wisconsin. Then we win the 3 way tiebreaker and get the 4.

Kind of pick your poison if you are Iowa with the 5 or 6 seed. Either you get Wisconsin if you win your first 2 or get Michigan St if you win your first 2. Either team Iowa struggles against.....but perhaps no more than Michigan St historically. Izzo absolutely owns Iowa in these situations.

I think the 5 seed is looking more likely...and I'd rather Iowa be the six. Indiana's loss to NW changed it

Not me; I want no part of the fightin' Izzos in March (if Iowa is the 6, Izzos are the 3).

We want to be on the 4 / 5 with Purdue. It doesn't even matter if Hawks win or lose at Indy, as long as Purdue loses at OSU, at MSU and beats Illannoy at home. And get this, if Illannoy upset Purdue, Iowa actually is better off losing at Indy, so as to preserve that 4/5 matchup with Purdue. Otherwise, If Iowa wins out, Purdue is upset by Illannoy, OSU moves up to the 5. Hawks don't want to see OSU a 3rd time.

Just looking to get more neutral wins for a nicer dance invitation.

Agree. Doesn't matter really. Either seed means they're in the MM tourney. I'm not expecting a Big10 tourney run.
If you're not winning the conference regular season and don't have to win the conference tourney, then that's all that matters.

Although I think they only would win one before facing MSU.

So did Fran call the play for Gesell's dunk. As soon as he motioned, MG takes off, all the bench is up by the time he's at the FT line, couple of the guys are doing a line-dance kick to help get him in the air and Jok (I think) is running down the bench as MG is rising for the dunk.

I loved the bench reaction (including ***'t coaches--which is why I think the play was called, too.)

when did assistant become a vulgarity?

I honestly don't want to have nothing to do with the Badgers.. If We had to face them I would rather It be in the title game of the BTT on CBS on Selection Sunday.

wait...if we don't want to face OSU a third time, then Wisky wouldn't want to face us a third time?
;)

But I'd rather not play them on Sunday when it's the only game on tv.

Anyone who would rather play Wisconsin than MSU is insane.

This is not a great MSU team. Wisconsin is a great team.

Hawks should have no fear of MSU. In fact I would think they would be looking forward to another shot at that little geek trice.

The key point is that the Iowa basketball team fears no opponent, even though many here do.

If you are going to The Dance, you best play every great team you can before you get there.

It doesn't much matter. If Iowa gets the 5, and wins games to get to Wisky, they'll be in a no-lose situation. A Wisky loss in the tournament semis will not knock them out of the NCAA tournament. You're going to have to beat God in heaven and the devil in hell if you want to win meaningful things. Might as well find out what that's like.

I'm not worried about matchups, get the highest seed possible and play who's in front of you.

Agreed. Sure you would like to win the entire tournament, but it's not the worst thing in the world if you win a game or 2 and get beat out. Get home, regroup, get some rest and get ready for the NCAA.
