my reason for breaking up the classes

i posted my thought on how i would like to see the classes broken up, does Fran listen to me or anyother poster looking to start a arguement with me. no he does not. but i do have a lot of faith in him to use the schollies AND players to the best advantage of the TEAM.
as for Alford all i do is point out were his flaws to prove he was not as bad as people claim he was, and most made up excuses to hate him, even sinking to hate his hair. now how stupid and lame is that?
hate clouds the pictures

If you are handing out scholarships to marginal players then I could probably see the justification for balancing the classes out. In this case, all of the players that are signed are expected to contribute in a big way. Those kids are going to be at Iowa for the next 4 or 5 years. They are only going to get better while at Iowa. If they contribute their Freshman year that's a bonus but think about the 2nd through 4th year those kids are going to be here....HUGE!

We basically have an entire team for the next 4 years. Other kids want to play with winners, which is why you see Duke, NC and fOSU continue to land big recruits (among other reasons). Kids today don't think they are going to sit on the bench when they come in as Freshman. A stud wing, PF, C or PG is going to want to play with other players that can take them to the NCAA tournament.

So what if we have one class that is large. We will deal with that crossroad in 5 years.

i guess i am not entitled to a opinion and get railed on for posting one, i even titled the thread "MY" reason for breaking them up, i guess this is a board of single minded people and if a poster does not follow their thought process and dares state such. they are crucified has being non-hawk fans and a hater of Iowa, who dares question anything

Because you are contradicting yourself. You say to have faith in Fran but you question the amount of scholarships he is handing out for next year. Your line of reasoning would be spot on if Iowa was not coming off back to back 20 loss season and have not been to the post season for 6 years. You and I can like Fran all we want but at the end of the day if Fran does not win he will lose his job. He understands the business/profession he is in so he will bring in any player he thinks might help him win next year.

again only 5 players play at a time, we have a solid 10 man rotation, so why intice transfers by adding a 6th player to this class, unless it is you that has no faith in Fran.

I don't want a player on Iowa who is affraid of competition. So if someone wants to trasfer because they are affraid of playing time so be it. Iowa is better off without that player for two reasons.

1. that player is very average and does not help put the program where it needs to be
2. that player is affraid to compete and that player brings no value.

It's big time college sports. Teams ALWAYS are recruiting guys to take your spot. It's the same thing in pro sports.

I see no reason why 6 players can not play significat minutes with the other two in the rotation adding some solid minutes. I figure an 8 man rotation is pretty solid and over the course of a long season you can get up to 10 guys playing time. There are games where Basabe and McCabe tend to pick up 3 fouls in about 8 minutes and sit a long time on the bench. There are injuries, guys have off nights, academic issues, missed games due to family issues.

how am i questioning Fran by stating a opinion,
i was right i am not allowed to state a opinion without being labeled a hater, or somebody as having no faith in the coach

ok so tell me who of the top 10 will lose minutes to this 6th man you say we need so desperately need to get to the next level, and by saying we need that 6th man it is you that has no faith in Fran getting the job done

I can't answer that. I will depend on Fran to determine who will be in that rotation through practices next season.

you say we need so desperately need to get to the next level, and by saying we need that 6th man it is you that has no faith in Fran getting the job done

Who is saying we desperately need a 6th man? I think most of us are in agreement that if Fran wants to sign a 6th player to this class, and it helps the team, then go for it.

My best case scenario:

1. Fran finds a mature(juco or prep school) wing shooter/slasher athlete this spring to help replace Matt.
2. That gives us 13 scholly players for next year.
3. Over the summer and fall, players train and play to win a spot in the rotation.
4. In fall practices, players compete for a spot in a 10-11 man rotation.
5. Two of the new guys, who are least ready to play and cannot break into that rotation, then redshirt. My candidates are Ingram and Meyer but let the competition dictate that.

Then we add another top talent for the 2013 class, and go forward with 3-3-4-3 roster spread.

That is perfect world, imo, but if it does not work out that way, fine, I trust Fran.
There is no way Fran will get real minutes for 13 guys,or even 12 guys,so why have another wasted year like Gabes?

This whole thread would be moot if Cougill hadn't flunked out & Hubbard had stayed. Fran would only have had four to give out this year & three for next year. Then we would be in Herby's perfect world. However, Fran had to replace existing players not graduating seniors.

if fran decides to sign another player it means he is good enough to play right away. that said, the worst player will be the player that loses minutes.

Yep, plus Cully Payne transfered.

So you did or did not support Alford?

Also, why do you consider May the last Lick recruit? Marble and McCabe are both Lickliter recruits. You failed to answer this in all your other ramblings.

Marble is a legacy and fran gave him the option to stay or leave, he opted to stay.
McCabe is a Iowa kid, who was given the same option. both showed in by staying they would have come no matter who the coach was/or is and Fran rerecruited both, all you have to do is see how Brust and Larson took advantage of their treslease that Fran was not obligated to do so. Gatens committed to Alford as a freshmen, again a Iowa kid that was going to be a Iowa player no matter who the coach was/is, so in my opinion neither should be classified as Lick recruits.
the best thing is neither spent a minute under Lick playing,
and i already stated my feelings on Alford i am neither a hater nor supporter of Alford, what i am in this case is a fence rider and a supporter of the team.
i was unaware that you either had to be a hater or a supporter of a certain coach, in the case of Lick, i don't know him personally, so i can't hate him, but i can hate what he did to Iowa BB the 3 years he was here.
if you can't understand that, it is because you don't want to

So Lick recruited them, received a verbal committment from them and secured their name on National Letters of Intent but you dont consider them Lick recruits?

Thats ridiculous and just proves the point that you will say anything to make yourself look right. You are wrong herby, not that big of a deal.

Another question- What was the score of the OSU/Wisconsin game this past Sunday?

Herby, again you contradict yourself & appear to not know what you are talking about. You make many erroneous & contradicting statements about Brust, Larson, Marble & McCabe.

All four players had signed the letter-of-intent. Therefore, Iowa had to give them scholarships. It was up to the players whether to stay or leave, not Fran. For whatever reason, Brust & Larsen requested their releases.
