Sure it would be a gamble for him but think of the goodwill it would create. Come on, even he has to acknowledge and be embarrassed with the fact that he is not deserving of the 6th highest salary and making 12x what his coordinators make. He should realize this is probably the only way his relationship is going to be a pleasant one in the coming 8 years.

Ok, so while your title sounded a lot gay I read it anyway. I agree and there is a precedent for this as well. Bill McCartney did the exact thing in the late 80's or early 90's. If fact he went so far as to state publically he was a Sun. through Fri. coach and recognized he hurt the team by being too involved on Sat. He turned everything over to his assistance sans the decision to go for it on 4th down.

Can't argue with A) the risk he took in switching to a version of the bone and B) getting the hell out of his assistants way on game day. Colorado did win an national championship during his tenure afterall.

It's actually not difficult to understand. Once Iowa showed they were willing to spend top dollar for a top coach, it opened the door to actually bring in a top coach. It's not like people would care less that he was a joke of a game day coach if he made less money. But after seeing how much the university is willing to spend, people realize we can afford better.
