My Interview with Oliver Martin from Tonight

Billie Buck watched for three years and he's being recruited by great programs. I'm convinced he's been a player on the rise and will be a great get for some team, hopefully Iowa.

So when you were watching Tim Dwight, you didn't notice any of the D1 talent he was playing and didn't tell everyone??? So you haven't seen a game in the last 20 some years that your 'eyeballs' told you were D1 talent? You're even funnier now....I've seen and 'called' dozens dozens of Iowa D1 talent in the last 20-30 years, but like I said in your 'reference' thread, Martin didn't play like it in the 3 games I saw (and obviously college recruiters noticed the same thing)...I'm glad he's 'exploded' and improved (in shorts and a t-shirt and no pads, lol) and I hope he does really well, but don't embarrass yourself acting like you can evaluate talent, lol..........

Seriously, what is your disdain with Billy Boy? Can't a guy have an opinion? That's what message boards are supposed to be about. Lay off a bit.

So he can criticize coaches, but no one can criticize him...And that's what message boards are about? Got it.....And I already covered the 'opinion' thing. Don't know why people think I'm picking on the poor soul? He was critical and questioning, so I was to him....So, it is ok to criticize and question people behind their backs, but not to their faces....got it! I learn a lot on here........I'll try to refrain from ever questioning or being critical of the 'opinions' of the experts on a message board. :)

Completely agree with this. People think they can just come on here and blast coaches and players and NOT have to take any heat on their own opinions??? It is funny crap. I mean Lightning tells us CW and Bohannon are failed PG, that Iowa will be lucky to finish 9th in the B1G. Then he gets all bent out of freaking shape if we don't bow down to his anonymous BB genius. LOL, Fran, Sherm, Dillard and Francis have forgotten more about BB than he has even known.

If he truly is a diehard Hawk fan then getting a scholarship from Iowa should suffice. If he's ticked because he didn't get the offer before anyone else offered........well that kind of puzzles me. Go off to another college just because he didn't get offered first. If he does go somewhere else I think he'll regret it.

Agree with this to some degree. If it was me, yeah I would look around and have some fun with it. Always great to hear good things about oneself by others at the top of their professions. But growing up a Hawk fan and I am sure he attended many games in Kinnick for some bigger games and understands what it is like and dreaming of playing there, I would commit there. Does it hurt Iowa typically does not get WR's drafted? Maybe, but if he believes he is that good he would be fine. He would get his shot in pro ball. Also he may want a shot at a national title and being realistic, yeah his chances would be better elsewhere, but man if they could pull one off in Iowa City they would be legend just as Chuck Long and team have not been forgotten 30 years later even when not title winners and look how revered Tim Dwight still is. Does he want to be a great player in a large fish bowl where he might be more of a number or a smaller one where he is really known. I would guess his pro ball aspirations might be playing more into this. Who can best prep him and what style of offense is being employed. Tug of war of the kid who loves his team and the kid that wants to maybe do what is best for his shot at the the big time. Can't blame the Iowa staff or the kid in this case. If it is meant to be it will be.

The closest he came to blasting the coaches is saying "I really don't understand what took the coaches so long to offer him". Then Ickehawk tears into him for thinking he's a talent scout. The attack was completely unwarranted and completely douchey. Go back and read Bills original post. There was nothing aggressive about it at all.

Yep. Nailed it. All the guy did was state he had an opportunity to watch Martin play live and offered his opinion and comparison to other talent he has seen play.
