This is all true.
After media day today, I drove down to a Starbucks in Coralville, near the HyVee, where I go and type a few things up after an Iowa media event, before I head back to Des Moines. I had just finished posting my Quick Hitters item and was headed to the car for the trek westward when my car would not start...a power problem.
The car was dead.
So I posted this on twitter: "Can Anybody who lives near the Starbucks in Coralville (next to Casey's) give me a jump? Can't believe this."
First off, I received several replies from folks saying they'd stop by if I had cables, which I did not (It's a one year old car, so I don't carry them...or at least, I didn't but now will).
Then in less than five minutes after sending out that tweet, my phone rings and the caller ID says 'Gary McIntire/State Farm' as I had entered it in my contacts.
Gary says 'Hey Jon, you know you have towing with your policy if you need it.' I laughed and asked how he called so fast and he said his wife follows me on twitter and called him.
He then says he'll drive over and give me a jump. 15 minutes later, he showed up, we jumped the car and I was on my way.
Prior to his arriving, three other Iowa fans who saw the tweet pulled up and asked if I needed help.
Freaking amazing.
Gary obviously went the extra mile and I always like to point that out to people when I experience such service...as well as the generosity and caring of Iowans. Thanks one and all.
