32. Ryan Bowen
33. Roy Devyn Marble
34. Luke Recker
35. Bob Hansen

Let the nitpicking commence.

Devyn Marble shouldn't be on there yet, Pierre Pierce was much better than him in a similar amount of games at this point. Kevin Gamble also was better than Dev.

Great list grape! But Downtown has to be higher on the list, plus whar Glen "the Stick" Vidnovic? Tough to put a list like this together, but I commend your picks.

Kevin Gamble was nowhere near as good as Roy Dev. Kevin Gamble averaged 2.6 and 11.9 ppg for two years, respectively. Dev averages slightly fewer rebounds and triple the assists. Pierre Pierce was a willful omission because he was a jackwag.

It's highly condensed in the top 12. As you see, Freddy is surrounded by Roy Marble and Kevin Kunnert. Not bad company. Vidnovic would be on the next tier. I can't bump Hansen or Recker for Stick.

Good arguments... how about Michael Payne and Brad Lohaus?

I always have difficulty comparing players when you are spanning several eras. Some of those older guys were terrific in their day but you wonder if they could really hang with today's players. Totally different level of athleticism in my opinion.

I always err on the side of presuming that they could hang. Respect for your elders and all that.

That's a question that can never be answered, however... the 1970 team "averaged" over a 100 points a game without a shot clock or the three point shot! There has never been a better team since! I have seen them all, and IMHO they were the best ever.

Horner is too high.

Horner is on there because of his secondary stats. He's Iowa's all-time leader in three pointers made, averaged 5 assists per game (better than BJ), 1.2 steals (better than BJ), and 4.6 rebounds per game (better than Gatens or Recker). Jeff Horner, an argument could be made statistically, actually deserves to be higher.

However, I believe you are referring to an "intangibles" metric, and I agree that Horner does not pass the smell test as a top-20 Hawk. I feel comfortable with him at 27th.

Gonna have to disagree on Gamble vs Marble. Look at who each has played with and go no further. I know I shouldn't look at it this way, but Gamble was an NBA player, jury is still way out on Marble.

I'll give you that Marble might not deserve to be on there yet, but there is no way that you put Gamble over him. Roy Dev has already accomplished everything that Gamble did as a Hawk except hit one of the most legendary threes in program history.

Never said Gamble deserved to be on the list just pointing out guys who were better than lil Marble. And unless you think Dev is going to have a 10+ year NBA career there is really no argument on who's the better player.

wow, tough to make a list like that. i'm bad at comparing eras. in two years, how close will the trashman be to cracking the list?

Of course there is. First of all, the list was intended to reflect how good these players were as Hawkeyes. I thought that would be clear by how I ranked the players. Roy Devyn Marble is already a better Hawkeye than Kevin Gamble was and he's got more than a year and a half left. Second of all, I see absolutely no reason why Roy Dev couldn't have a long NBA career. I know many people do. I'm not one of those people.

Haven't seen any HAWKS in quite some time better than Kenny Arnold, Steve Carfino, Steve Krafcisn, and Vince Brookins. Nobody rebounded like Clay Hargrave. Like him or not, Ricky Davis.

So Marble's a better Hawkeye just because he played on a less talented team? I thought this was ranking the players based on basketball ability.
