MVP, Most Improved & Needs Most Improvement

Pretty quiet day, no game this week, so what the heck...

MVP: Cartwright. Without him we would be worse than last year.

Most Improved: Basabe. Lots of improvement in his game and confidence since the non conference.

NMI: McCabe. Needs to learn from this year and come back next season with a more polished offensive game and hopefully a step of added quickness. If not, he better turn into a nails 3 point shooter, as he is not an up tempo guy IMO.

Cole deserves props for being a class act and a leader on and off the floor. I hope that a grad assistant spot is offered, if that is something Cole would be interested in. It is too bad he spent 4 tough years here and won't be around to reap the benefits of his hard work.

MVP - Basabe w/ Cartwright 2nd.

Most Improved - Brommer

Needs the most improvement - I'll go with McCabe. He has a ton of potential just needs to let the game slow down a bit.

MVP: Cartwright, without Payne, Bryce stepped up.

MIP: Cole, really plays hard and has added a nice little shot.

NMI: May, good thing is, I think he has the tools to be a good player.

Newcomer of the year: Basabe, hard to pick a freshman as most improved, but Mel needed to be recognized.

MVP=Cartwright

Most Improved=Brommer and I am basing this off last year to this year.

Needs to improve=May, he is athletic and will benefit from Fran's system. Needs to work on outside shot and getting to the rim!

Basabe has most definitely improved as the season has progressed, but most of us knew of potential based on what he did in the PTL. We just didn't know how that would translate to the Big10.

MVP: Cartwright
Tough call between Cartwright and Basabe for me, but without Cartwright running things and getting to the rim we don't have a creator on offense.

Most Improved: 1a. Cartwright 1b. Basabe
I was down on Cartwright to start the season (see Xavier game), but his scoring and game management and ability to stay in control have improved tremendously. With Basabe he has also shown big improvement, but I never was as down on him as I was Cartwright. Also would throw in Brommer as someone who has improved a lot since last year.

Needs Most Improvement: May
I still think May looks more like a Big 10 safety than a Big 10 guard. Yes, his dunks are awesome, but he needs to spend some serious time in the gym working on ballhandling and his jumpshot. Hope he can do it, but at this point it looks like he should have went the football route as he might actually have pro potential in that sport.

MVP - Cartwright
If it's most valuable and not "best" player I think it's hands down Cartwright

Most Improved Player - Cartwright
This is tough to pick because so many guys have made a lot of progress. Basabe and Brommer are other guys that come to mind --even Marble has improved significantly.

Needs Most Improvement - Brommer
May and McCabe both have a lot of room for improvement but Brommer has to improve next year for us. If he is only a backup he will still have a big role in a thin position.

MVP- Cole....Bryce is a close second, but Cole for the leadership over 4 years.

Most Improved- Brommer....never thought he would be able to do some of the things he has done...like take his guy off the dribble from the top of the circle and get to the hoop in traffic and finish...stuff like that was only a fantasy for him last year...still has a long way to go,but there is hope.

Most improvement needed- Melsahn Basabe...he has the highest ceiling,so he can improve the most, and we need him to be a star,as he is our best legit shot at a star.
Marble is second in this category.

MVP-Cartwright/Cole. Cartwright for his production, but Cole has been the heart and soul of this team with his leadership.

Most Improved- Is there really anyone else? Brommer, without question. The kid looked like an absolute garbage, worthless player a year ago, and now he's a solid contributor with room for more improvement.

Needs most improvement- Probably McCabe, but I could make a case for Archie as well (we're probably going to need him to contribute a fair amount next year).

MVP: Cartwright

Most Improved: Cartwright

Needs Most Improvement: Cartwright - If he can work on his shooting and become a legitimate threat from beyond the arc, we have ourselves one hell of a player.

Cartwright

Cartwright

Most need for improvement is the toughest... we need Brommer to continue improving so he can step in for the absence of Cole next year. Marble or May also need to improve so we can get more production from the wing spot.

MVP: Basabe-Iowa has needed him for about a decade
MIP: Cartwright-he went from a turnover-in-waiting to a potential All-BT player
NMI: Archie-if he is around Iowa will need his athleticism and shot-blocking ability
