A little campy? Yep
Bubble-gum rock? Maybe
Kick ass tunes that you can't help but rock out to? Absolutely.
Farewell tour coming up and I'll be at one of the shows in February.
Kiss
KISS will go down as one of the most paradoxical dichotomous bands of all time.Remember the Kiss Army tats in the Alive II album sleeve with the catalogue of Kiss stuff, from the cheesy silver jacket to the highly coveted pinball machine? The inner sleave spread of them all on the risers, flash pots going off in all their cartoonish glory?
Back in 5th grade, I wanted to be a pilot in the Air Force, but if I couldn't be a pilot I wanted to be any one of them after seeing the inner sleeve. Lol.
I saw the 96 show here in Denver when Gene and Paul buried the hatched for a year or two with Peter and Ace. It was basically Alive&AliveII. Really awesome, super fun. They were very much on and sounded great.
Looks like they still put on a fun show.

I mean, goofy over-the-top theatrics, personal in-fighting, an obsession with money, some of the most ridiculous and borderline embarrassing merchandising efforts of all time, in any business venture (the movie and cartoons alone were horrendous enough, but there's sooo much more), combined with -
Solidly composed material with addictive hooks. A genuine respect for the art of the music. A sincere dedication to the fanbase combined with a solid work-ethic. And, as alluded to above, philanthropic efforts that largely go unreported.
The KISS Army movement spawned a surprisingly good movie....1999's Detroit Rock City....a stoner comedy with KISS as the central theme.KISS will go down as one of the most paradoxical dichotomous bands of all time.

I don't think so. I grew up listening to these guys AND saw them at McElroy Auditorium, uh way back in the day (1976)Of course you do realize that admitting that you ever listened to KISS, even for a short time as a pre-teen, is a stain on your reputation that can never be removed.
