Murph and Andy Show

I don't mind them being hard on Iowa but the Jantzfest is a bit much. The kid played a great game but let's not get carried away after one bad game and one good game. Much like the clowns, do it over an entire season and then we'll talk. Shaggy had his day in the sun too at our expense.

this is a stupid comment when our fans are freaking out over one game

Let's not forget this was a triple overtime game that could have gone either way. My point is that if you are high on Jantz/ISU, than how can you be down on Iowa? If Morris gets a finger on the option pitch and Iowa falls on it and Iowa wins by 3 would they suddenly be up Iowa and down on ISU? My frustration with what I've heard on the talks shows so far is that everyone is up on ISU, but down on Iowa, when quite clearly both teams are very evenly matched and both a lot of good plays. As a Hawkeye fan I'm down on the Hawks right now b/c I think with the money, recruiting, facilities advantage, etc. we should be able to regularly handle ISU. But generally the local talk show guys tend to think that line of thinking is me being arrogant Hawk Fan and that Iowa fans are arrogant and stupid to think we should dominate the series. That's fine, but by that logic the talk shows should be talking about the gutsy Iowa performance to go on the road, into a hostile environment and take the in-state rival into 3 overtimes. It's a bit of a double standard: Hawk fans, you are not allowed to think you are better than ISU because you are not, but if ISU wins we are going to sensationalize the accomplishment and talk about Iowa like it choked/stinks. Whatever holes you can punch in the Hawks you can punch in ISU: both teams gave up over 40 points, both had costly turnovers and penalties, etc., but you would think from the talk shows and message boards ISU won by 28 and dominated the game that went into 3 overtimes.

All that being said I think both teams have a shot at being good and going bowling this winter, and I hope they both do.

You are touching on why this game shouldn't be played if you are Iowa.

Blow them out - great, you are Iowa and are suppose to
Close game - no one cares, just another non conference game that you are suppose to win
God forbid you lose - epic meltdown=we suck=season over(in some fans eyes, not mine)

And you would think from the pre-game build up that Iowa was a sure bet to destroy ISU, it was a pretty big upset. Maybe not based on the teams, but definitely in the perception of media and fans of the teams.

EddyP, I agree on that. I would probably (dare I say) become a Cyclone fan if Iowa didn't play them regularly. But the point is that if a talk show person (or any person) comes away thinking ISU is really, really good and has a shot at a special season, etc., than you must necessarily think Iowa is also pretty good and has a shot at a good season (particularly since our schedule is easier) because both teams played so close (with the home team clinging to a 3 point win). I think ISU is pretty good and Iowa is pretty good. If both improve, both have shots of good seasons. But it doesn't make any sense to be way up on one of the teams and way down on the other.

Jantz is a below average quarterback. Iowa's defensive line and secondary suck. These teams won't combine for more than six wins the rest of the way.

While I disagree with the opinion, at least it is internally consistent. Unfortunately for Iowa, missing two starters (Lowry and Bernstine) out of 4 secondary players was too much for the Hawks to overcome. Would have been nice to play the game at full strength - including McCall (as I'm sure ISU would have like to have all of their pieces in place as well).

Um they're being objective. Saying things like Jantz was the best player on the field...which was true. Also said that Coker had a good game which was true.

3.9ypc and a fumble lost does not make for a good game. We need a RB putting up over 5 ypc, and has some hands. If McCall were healthy, there is a good chance that Coker is riding the pine by the start of the B1G season...or sooner.

I don't know why anyone would even watch that show - it stinks! I last watched couple of years ago and very little sports talk and even less informed sports talk. Guarantee you a lot of guys off the street have a much more rounded knowledge of all sports. All these guys wanted was a forum for their poor attempt at humor. Could care less what they say because their opinions mean nothing.

Only thing that used to be funny was my son and his buddies calling them and getting them frustrated.

I think Murph and Andy do a pretty good job of being non-partial to either Iowa or ISU. They are good offering criticism of both programs and also good about pointing out the positives ...

Iowa's defense tends to do that a lot to QB's like him, they just sit back and let QB's pick them apart with the shorter passes and he did just that without making any real mistakes props to him, but not the first time Iowa's D has allowed that to happen.

Jantz took more downfield shots than Persa ever has. He bought a lot of time scrambling, and found some seriously wide open receivers WAY down field on a couple of occasions. The TD that was called back for holding was ridiculous. THAT is not something we're used to seeing our defense allow, a receiver 40+yards downfield with no one within 25 yards. That was the worst defensive play of the day, even though it didn't hurt us because of the penalty.
