MSU vs Iowa preview - cbssports.com

An Iowa D or ST TD would really be timely this week...If weather a factor and it's a grinder, STs will be huge and could come down to knocking down FGs and that is one area we've been consistently good at.

Conroy is ranked higher because he has had 16 FG attempts. Meyer has a lower ranking but has made a higher percentage of his 11 FG attempts.

Conroy FG 68.8%, PAT 100%, 6 of 11 between 30 and 49
Meyer FG 90.9%, PAT 100%, 3 of 4 between 30 and 49

If weather is going to be a factor then those percentages may be lower so something like Meyer @ 75% and Conroy @ 50%. My guess is drives that stall out in the red zone will end in FGs for both teams, Drives that stall out just beyond the 20 favor Iowa. Long kicks are about even but weather could factor in more on those.

Two things to watch & for Iowa to be successful this game.

1) How successful Vandenburg handles the blitz. If they get pressure on him or into his head, it will be tough for Iowa.
2) Iowa's running game controlling the clock and contributing to field position.

Otherwise, the two teams are very similar to what their current strengths & weaknesses are.

I am not sure why people complain about laying down to slow a hurry-up offense. Until they change the rules to stop doing this, it seems like the obvious smart play. People like to ridicule the behavior, but it is within the rules and I would coach it as well.

The way to stop that behavior is to run right over the sub they bring in. However, if they have the depth necessary to run that system effectively, you are out of luck.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for a rule change - perhaps after second time going down, you need to stay out a number of plays - but while the rules allow it, it is just bad coaching not to use it.

Well, to put it simply, most people on here have disdain for the behavior because they're... well....men.

I feel like men do what it takes to win. So your disdain would extend to a soldier in the field that plays dead to draw an enemy close and then springs to life with a bayonet to the face is somehow a coward? I would say that he is just doing what it takes to win.

This is why everyone should have their kids play soccer. That is a sport that teaches you how to do whatever it takes to win.
