MSU Offers Cedrick Lattimore

Chit, chit, chit. Had a feeling he was gonna get that offer at some point, hopefully Iowa can hold onto him, he looks like he will be a real good one.

He has perhaps the highest ceiling of anyone in this class. And that's saying something because there are quite a few guys with a lot of potential.

I've reached out to him to see how the MSU offer might affect his recruitment and am waiting to hear back.

Here's what he had to say back when he committed to the Hawks. Let's hope he feels the same way:

Lattimore said he received mail and letters from Michigan and Michigan State, but the Spartans or Wolverines never recruited him.

Those schools didn't hold much interest to him anyway.

"I always wanted to go to college out of state," Lattimore said. "It's always something I wanted to do. I wasn't for sure which school, but now that I'm 17, it's Iowa.

"It was the best fit for me and my family."

Despite offers from other prominent out-of-state schools like Cincinnati and Minnesota, Iowa remains at the top of the list.

"Iowa's just been there for me," he said. "They sent me a lot of letters and continue to show very good interest."

Just got in touch with Cedrick. I asked him if MSU offer changes anything with Hawkeyes commitment.

He said: "No, not at all. I love Iowa."

That is good to hear, but I wonder. I have been worried about other offers coming along, but when I posted it I didn't realize we would be #5 and in the Rose Bowl.....so I guess we are a "big time" offer now really. Yet we are fighting his home state school, that is always tough.

Players are still being evaluated, and they haven't even played their Sr. years. Lattimore just picked up a Minnesota offer, and he will get more offers before this is all said and done. We will be lucky if the Detroit kids end up signing with us in Feb.

Here is a good article by Andrew Kuhla at 247 talking about Lattimore and Golston (both had zero P5 offers when they signed with Iowa). Hopefully we can hang onto both of these guys come signing day.

I think you hit on it, Dean. Our offer looks a lot different/better than it did back in May when CL and CG committed.

I sense that the kid knows he was a "fallback", so to speak, for MSU and we jumped in with an offer almost a year ago. I do think that's important.

As long as we follow up this year with another solid year, these types of late offers shouldn't matter unless it's a Bama, ND, O$U, etc. MSU isn't even close to that category imo

Rob, Welcome back! Absolutely love the inside recruiting coverage...

Really hope the Hawks can maintain this class until signing day and possibly add a few studs with the remaining scholarships they have?

Thanks! Good to be back!

I'll have to research it more, but from memory, we've had at least one kid flip away from us to another school in most recent cycles. Karan Higdon did it last year. Delano Hill jumped ship in the '13 class. Ironically, both those kids ended up at Michigan.

This class has been pretty much in place since June so I think that with the season we had helps a ton.

Yeah, I don't know Rob and am wouldn't gain any advantage in sucking up to him or JM, but Jon really hit it out of the ballpark and getting Rob back on board.

Thanks, much. I really appreciate the kind words. Hope I can live up to the hype. :)

Can't hurt that we're in a dead period and he's scheduled for a return visit to IC in mid-later Jan.

Didn't the same thing happen with Micah Hyde? MSU came in at the 11th hour with an offer after Hyde had been committed to Iowa for a while. Sticking with the Hawkeyes worked out well for him.
