MSN.com 5 most overrated college football coaches

of the top 10 paid guys....

who has had a better last 2 seasons then Kirk?

Harbaugh? I don't think so... unless you think the Citrus and Cap 1 are better than a division title and a Rose Bowl

Saban? Most certainly

Meyer? Most certainly

Stoops? Most certainly

Jimbo Fisher? Not in the last 2 seasons

Charlie Strong? Nope

Malzahn? Nope

Kevin Sumlin? Nope

Hugh Freeze? Nope

In a what have you done for me lately world only a small number of coaches could really have had a better 2 yrs than KF when you consider KF ran the table to the Rose bowl during one of them. But yeah Strong is long gone because of his lack of success now. Texas will always have a top 5 paid coach going forward pretty much. Malzahn and Sumlin are fighting for #2 behind Bama basically and since Fisher lost Winston to the pros he hasn't been able to roll through ACC quite the same way. Pretty much it's Saban/Meyer/Harbaughs world the rest are swimming upstream in it taking turns in the top 5.

I think correction is in order. Saban, Swinney & Meyer. That is the Law firm that runs college football right now. Harbaugh is just a media darling because everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting for this guy to do something crazy. It's a mini scale of the Trump effect.

Kirk's been on these lists for the last 10 years. He usually leads the team to good/great seasons whenever he is on them. Glad they put him on it again.

Harbaugh over-rated after the mess he inherited there? No way man.

Agreed. Harbaugh is DEFINITELY "overhyped", but NOT overrated.

Yeah that's true Dabo has elbowed and earned his way into that discussion for sure.

I honestly think he is about to take the throne from Saban. I mean who would you want to play for. "Southern Hospitality" Swinney or "Sandpaper" Saban. You can even throw in "Artful Dodger" Urban. I keep waiting for the tides to ebb on OSU and to watch as Artful Dodger bails on bucknuts to go bring USC back to glory. Nope I think Swinney is primed to take over. The Clemson dynasty is in full swing with an NC under the belt.

He's as primed as anybody I'd say. And he's not going anywhere either. And your right with that NC trophy he's pretty much written himself a ticket to be up there for a long time. It'll be interesting to see what happens first. Does Saban start to show some chinks in the armor before he walks away? Or does he stay up there for 2 or 3 more years before hanging it up? I think the over under is 3 but I could be wrong.

Hmmmm.... interesting that you are already pondering Saban's retirement. I guess I just always assumed he would never leave football until old and tarnished. Along the lines of Bowden or Joe Pa. What is Saben like 67? Shit he could probably coach for another decade. I don't know about retiring but yes the chinks in the armour have already been exposed. It feels as though the Crimson dynasty is starting it's slow and subtle decline. That said Alabama is likely a 9-10 win per season team year in and year out minimum until Saban does hang it up. I also predict he will win at least 1 more NC, but I don't think it comes in the next 2 seasons.

It just feels to me as if he's piling up the money now for a few more years so he can walk off into the sunset. His legacy is as cemented as can be. Another title or two would just be gravy. It wouldn't surprise me if I'm wrong and he sticks around closer to ten years more. If I had to put 50 cents on it I'd just take the under for now

That's cool. Your guess is as good as any.

How many different ways can this same article be re-packaged? Not many, I think is the answer. I'm all for hiring the coach that can get Iowa an annual 9-win, minimum, season, a BT championship game on a fairly regular basis, a BT championship now and then, a CFP spot every so often, and a NC. What bin do we get that guy out of?
This has always been my argument. I'm all for national titles. Big Ten championships. I want to see the guy who will do it before I see us run a good coach who runs a clean program who has NFL pundits talking about us every day...out of town.

My same guess goes towards KF too. I’ll be surprised if he’s got more than 3- 5 left. If he were to have 3 good ones I think he’ll pass torch to Brian. I think human nature would say he’d like to leave on a high note and be able to do that. And if that high note were to come 3 yrs from now he wouldn’t hang around longer with the chance of messing up his kid being able to get the gig.

That said first things first let’s see how this year goes…

The Kirk scenario gets more confidence points in my book. the motivation is clear and plain to see. Kirk could fluff the stock and then pass the hot potato to his protégé/son. the Saban angle is certainly not as clear. He may very well hang it up soon, but if I had to bet on it I would still take the over on 5+ years remaining for Saban.

I'm always amazed at these writers who say 2015 was an anomaly for Iowa but when they mention 2012 they act like it's common. 2012 was an anomaly for Iowa.
