Most Important Stat For Wisconsin Game?

......Besides the ending score!

What stat within the game will be the most important for Iowa to have success this Saturday? Yards gained on first down? 3rd down %? Time of possession? Average field position? ....etc. etc..

What do you think? I suppose if Iowa has a better 3rd down conversion rate that will mean they are moving the ball that plays into field position and time of possession. One can also presume they are getting good results on 1st and/or 2nd down.

What will be the telling stat for this game? Discuss.

Probably penalty yards. If they call this game fairly and don't let Wisconsin's o-line get away with murder, Wisconsin will have over 100 yards of penalties and Iowa will win. If Wisconsin's DBs can mug our receivers and their OL can tackle our DL and they wind up with 35 penalty yards, Iowa will lose.

I'm going yards per attempt passing. If Stanley is over 7 ypa we're winning. He averaged 6.94 ypa in 2017 and so far 7.38 ypa in 2018.

For me its rushing yards, not necessarily how many we give up because I'm sure Taylor will get his, but Iowa has to run for over 100 yards in this game. Last year was ridiculous and 2016 wasn't much better. If Iowa can get the run game going, it will open up opportunities in the pass game. As long as they can put up some points, I feel fairly confident in the defense to get it done.

Good choice. If both running games are fairly neutralized, this may be a telling stat for success.

Yes. Iowa's D Line will be held on every play. Fant in particular will be held on offense. Wisconsin will see what they can get away with and count on the refs being wary of flagging them repeatedly for obvious violations, aka "cheating"

Yep, same thing you could expect from them in hoops. And MSU does the same as Wisconsin with their vaunted defensive backs who suddenly look very pedestrian in the NFL. Dantonio knows the refs aren't gonna make 20 defensive holding and PI calls per game.

I’m not sure the official stat but I’d look at average 3rd down distance.

If we can force UW into 3rd&7 and longer we can turn loose our pass rush and put Horni in uncomfortable spots.

Likewise is Iowa stays ahead of the chains it opens up the playbook for BF.

The most important stat for me is always the number of beers I drink and keeping my buzz at optimal football watching levels. Too much too early and the game becomes a blur...too much too late and I end up sleeping next to my dog on the porch. It's critical to manage the process efficiently.

In all seriousness...I think the game rests in Stanley's hands. If he plays well and completes above 60%, I think we win. Obviously, there are so many critical matchups...Our OL vs their front seven....Our DL against the big experienced Wisky OL...our corners against their WR...many important match ups...but to me...for Iowa to have a chance to win...Stanley needs to come up big..
