I say yes. Cook, Moss, Wagner, and Uhl are all very athletic and then Baer, Jok, Williams, and Jones are all slightly above average athletically in my mind. I know it's been discussed around here a little bit. What other Iowa teams are in the running?

I don't know. Some of the Raveling--recruited teams were pretty athletic. Would have to see all these guys play this year to compare.

Hands down....no. Some are mistaking some athleticism for being really athletic. It's been a while sense a team has been this athletic. Maybe mid late 80s...maybe. The question remains, can they play basketball...

I don't know if they are average athletes at the big ten level, but if they are that is pretty good for Iowa if you consider the last decade. I personally think they are above average. The Iowa team seemed to get better when Baer came in off the bench, and there is a reason for that. Iowa has a lot of other guys that are pretty athletic. I never really considered Jok a great athlete, but he probably was just getting close to 100% physically toward the end of his sophomore year. He progressed a lot from his sophomore to junior year. It should be fun to watch what the Iowa coaching staff can do with the talent they have this year.

Sounds like the consensus is probably no. I'm not old enough to know some of those other teams that's why I asked.

I guess it also depends how you define athletism. I personally think being 6'6 and taller and being able to run and jump as fast as some of these guys do is very impressive.

Anyone else see some Doug Thomas in Cooks game? Cook seems to want/try to dunk it every time. He likes to go up hard off two feet like Thomas did and use two hands if possible. He seems to have a more polished overall offensive game then Thomas did (at least at this point in career) so I really hope to have him around a few years tearing rims down.
As far as overall athleticism goes... I dunno about that but this team sure is young and I'll have to see them all play more to decide that.

No, The Team Tom Davis inherited his first year at Iowa was one of Iowa's best teams in the last thirty-five years.

Most of these current players have not showed enough to even make such a statement. It's all wishful thinking at this point but that is ok as that is what fans do. Go Hawks!!!!

It is a little too early to tell. We'll have a better idea in January... But they are the most athletic team Fran has had. Probably the most since the early Mr. Davis. That '86 team probably was the most athletic team...

However they rank, I just hope that they can put it all together. Being the most athletic, does not always translate to the best players. Nor the best chemistry. We'll see how it all shakes out in about 6 months... But until then, practices and PTL should be interesting to hear about.

I would say the 87 team is still the most athletic and talented team to walk through those doors. But it is early and these guys are young so we'll see what happens.

This team could be as athletic as a Raveling team just that we haven't seen the product yet on court. Good question to ask though.

You have to be athletic to play in the Big Ten, even the players we say lack athleticism are still athletic compared to normal people but the players you listed with above average athleticism probably aren't more than average compared to other Big Ten players

I suppose it is just splitting hairs at this point, I said they are slightly above average, you say they are average.

As far as Dale Jones, he did seem a little stiff in the limited action we saw of him last year, so maybe he is closer to "average". His long wingspan helps make up for some of that.

I agree with another poster who said Jok was beginning to regain some of his athletism towards the end of the year. I remember thinking the same when he had three strong dunks in the 1st half @ Rutgers. You noticed in the second half of the season he started finishing through contact for some and-1s. His best physical attribute is his strength compared to other guard/wings in the Big 10.

Baer, probably does lack the foot speed to keep up with quicker players, I seem to recall him getting blown by a little bit. He did have 7 blocks in one game off the bench.

I'll give you Baer and Jones as "average" but I'll stand by Jok and Williams as "above average."

Putting very little thought into it I think we are close to the most athletic team in the Big10 next year. Maybe OSU, ILL, or MSU? I don't know much about incoming players but I'd think we are up there.

Agreed. The Spurs were probably the least athletic team in the NBA the last several years and were one of the best.

The least athletic and potentially the most athletic teams then could happen within, what, seven years of each other?
Yeah, I've been really impressed with the type of athletes that Fran can pull as opposed to BIG Lick. I think this years team will probably lose 10 - 12 games, but should be a lot of fun to watch. I agree, maybe the most athletic team we've seen.
