Don't let that final score fool you on Purdue, Ohio State gifted them a lot of those points. It wasn't until late 4th quarter did it even feel like Purdue was in total control of that game. I'm not saying it was not an impressive win for Purdue, it definitely was, but I saw a lot of thing go right for Purdue and a lot of things go wrong for Ohio State. Purdue is gonna be a tough game, I felt that way long before they beat tOSU, but if the Iowa offense that kicked the crap out of the Minnesota and Indiana defense shows up Iowa has got a good shot at winning.

Having said that it will be interesting to see how our defense handles Rondale Moore.

honestly, we owe both those skunk teams for last season. but PU because of Moore. Our pass rush should be the equalizer on their qb(s), but that might force them to throw more quick passes to Moore. double team Moore all game long. regardless.

BF has been calling much better games lately. Getting away from "old Kirk" tendencies. If his progression continues, I'd support him for HC some day.
Kirk has as his "primary objective" to bring the son into the HC position.

Needs to make the move when the "Kirk Friendly" AD can apply grease.

Needs to make the move when BF is "doing well" and demonstrating that he is HC material.

Needs to make the move after one of his "big seasons" so that the transition is smooth and he can move into some advisory position.

This year if the season plays out well?

I don't care one way or the other. I'm not pushing KF out or trying to get anyone else hired. Even if BF gets this offense to new heights, it doesn't mean he will be a good HC. There's a lot more to it than that. Can he hire a staff? We don't know that.

Do you have evidence for this? or are you just projecting?

I don't know if scared is the right word, but I'll go with the next game is the scariest game.

Purdue is the more important game. There is no way to win the west while loosing to Purdue. But if you went with all the favorites in ESPN's FPI, you'd have the following results:

Iowa 7-2 (Wisconsin, PSU)
Wisconsin 6-3 (Michigan, PSU, Purdue)
Purdue 6-3 (Northwestern, Michigan St., Iowa)
Northwestern 6-3 (Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa)

I know their model lacks some personal touch like I don't believe Purdue will loose to Michigan St. this weekend with how injured Sparty is. But my point is there is still a path forward to Indy even with a loss to PSU. A loss to Purdue in two weeks would probably lead to Purdue winning the west and Brohm leaving the Boilermakers.

Yep this is why I wanted Ohio St to beat Purdue even though I have a big disdain for OSU and little disdain for PU.

Gonna say PSU. Mostly because they are next. A win there, come out healthy, confident, and hungry.

It sounds weird but while PU does look good and solid in all phases, 8 still say if you can press Blaugh a bit, they are a different animal.

I liked this because you were joking right? I like winning because it's great to watch. I could really give a rat's ass about KF's desire to get BF the head job when he is done. KF is going to be here for another 5 years at least...so get used to that.

Listen...I don't think 7-8 wins a year are going to be enough on average over the next 5 years to get BF the head job. The optics wouldn't be right. Now, if you throw in a few 10-2 or 11-1 seasons and a B10 title, then BF is a lock. I will tell you, the offense I have been watching this year is a huge step up from Greg Davis. Think about it, we spent the entire year last year against good teams, not being able to protect the QB. It severely limits you offensively when you have two freshman offensive tackles. This year, Stanley has protection and we will throw on any down in any situation...third and one, 2nd and 5, 3rd and 10...it doesn't matter. The whole offensive playbook is now on the table. With our running game...that makes you really hard to defend.

I know it's early...but if this plays out like I think it's going to...we will want BF to take the job when it rolls around in 5 years.

I was not joking. I don't see KF here another 5 years. I think he will look for a proper time to exit on top and with a "guarantee" that BF will succeed him. I think that happens with the current AD. Otherwise, all bets off.

Of course I could be wrong.

I voted Penn State just because they're next on the schedule and the sting from the loss at kinnick last year is still fresh in my mind.

If Iowa beats Penn State and purdue it could cement Brian ferentz future at Iowa...like it or not.

Once thrown into the fire, many who appeared under qualified rise to the top. Perhaps Brian will be an example. If so, what a great gift for Iowa. Iowa is known for that "diamond in the rough" player. Who on this board wouldn't want that "diamond in the rough" story for the head coach? The "New Hawkeye" philosophy is much more exciting and successful.

That said, solid and deep offensive and defensive lines perhaps have more to do with this shift in philosophy.

I lean towards PSU because it's the next game we have and they are who they are. Plus if we don't beat them the Purdue game means a whole lot less. If you were to flip when we play them around I'd say Purdue for the same reason... Their both dang good and I'll tell you what. I don't know what our odds are of beating them both but if we do... If we do we better be looked at as one of the best teams out there period. Because this will be a heck of a test playing them both on the road back to back...

Purdue. IMO following a big game following PSU, it seems like it sets up as a possible letdown game.. Plus I honestly think Purdue is playing better football right now than PSU. Just my 2 cents.

Right now, I’d say PU. Two really good QBs. Chance for Stanley to cement legacy.

Not me. Our coaches got caught last year against Purdue. It wont happen this year.

Penn St at night in a man card game for the ninny lions. This is exactly the type of game that being the better team might not matter.

We are loaded for next year too. Both sides of the ball. Kirk will be back next year at least. He still has some records to break. Now 2020 season might be on the table as a possible exit point. If we can come off of back to back 10+ win seasons then it might be a good time to try the hand off. That way if 2020 is a rebuilding year. Brian will be given at least a year of latitude.
