More Sour Grapes...

If anything they played with themselves.

Ask the RB that Niemann knocked out of the game if MSU was playing an opponent or not.

But I have to admit if Iowa had lost the game a lot of those same sentiments would have been expressed on here and in Iowa articles. A bad punt and 2 costly turnovers accounted for 16 of Miss State's 22 points. Iowa was up 17-6 at half and were getting the ball to start the 2nd half, the absolute worst case happened with 2 costly turnovers which led to 2 MSU touchdowns and they were down 17-19. Granted their wide receiver dropped an easy touchdown, but I also remember Gervase dropping an easy interception. Even if their wide receiver catches that there was plenty of time on the clock for Iowa to respond (granted I wouldn't have liked our chances).

Both sides had plenty of excuses, IMO the better prepared team won.

I watched that play frame-by-frame and you can see that the WR stops because the pass was behind him and was going to catch it around his right shoulder. Then Stone tips the ball at the 6 and the pass is now a bit ahead of him so he had to catch it on his left shoulder. Still a catch he probably should've made, but not as easy as I had originally thought when I watched it on Tuesday.

Good call, I had not even realized that ball had been tipped. Now that I've gone back and looked at it Guidry didn't have enough time to adjust. Without the tip he easily makes that catch.

The only reason I point this out is because so many MSU/ISU fans are saying Iowa was lucky and were gifted the game and point to this play as their prime example. It was actually a good defensive play by Iowa.

I think we got lucky that MSU players were waaay too full of themselves and they got nailed early with serious penalties. One ejection for targeting. Probably just me but it seemed after that they played with a little monkey on their backs. I recall one play where the MSU player threw his hands up in the air as if to say "Not Me! It was a clean block, man!".

We did get kinda lucky tho.
Cmon now.
And, 0 penalties. 0 penalties!? How does that happen?

Did you see any obvious ones?? MSU's were obvious, and yes you would think as badly as our O line was doing at times somebody would have tried to grab a jersey and hold on. I just didn't see anything during the game that looked like an obvious missed penalty on Iowa.

There is a win column and a loss column in college football. There isn’t a They Weren’t Better Than Us column, although that attitude may be part of the reason they now have one higher digit in the loss column.
