From three years ago, but the handshake certainly seemed to catch Matta by surprise.

Has any of this been recognized by the parties involved? The link took me to a Buckeye message board. Lots of "speculation" of what was said or what transpired.
If so, why does the plaque on the front of the trophy say "Big Ten Tournament Champion"?

The answer is that the auto bid goes to the tournament champion, not the conference champion.
The mob worked out great. We got rid of a cancer in our program. The problem is the recovery process has been as bad as the original disease. I am glad to announce that we are now in complete remission, in other words, WE ARE BACK.![]()
Note also that it says TOURNAMENT champions.Note the size of CHAMPIONS on that trophy. It is bigger than the rest of the text. They are the champions.

GO HAWKS!!!

Next, I suppose some prole is going to come on here alleging that the overall number 1 seed in the NCAA tourney is really the national champion irregardless of what happens in the tourney because that's basically what I'm getting from all these posts aimed at diminishing the accomplishments of Alford. Ridiculous.
But that is the team with the auto berth. Therefore, they are the champions. Is the overall number 1 seed the NCAA national champion or is the team that actually wins the final game the national champion? Is Notre Dame the football national champion because they were number 1 at the end of the season or is Alabama the national champion because they won the national championship game?
Face it, Alford has some championships. Fran will get his first in the B1G on Sunday afternoon.
So much win from OK4P.
I remember dropping a large lead while Alf sat on the bench and pouted more than I recall the three pointer at the end. I knew with five minutes to go in the game that it was already over.
