More on RB situation

From hawktalk tonight....nothing too shocking....

KF says very likley that at least one of the redshirts coming off for Coker/Johnson. Brad Rogers is currently working at both RB and FB. Mentioned Brett Morse could also get some PTin certain formation. Morris NOT moving to RB....Hitchens has also gotten work at RB this week.

Then went on to say Adam is the featured back and will get a breather when needed.

It will certainly be interesting to see how it all plays out on Sat.

Good stuff, thanks. Guess we will all have to wait to see whether #30 or #34 takes the field when A-Rob needs a breather. I think those are Johnson and Coker's numbers?

Yup, 30 is DJ and 34 is Coker. I think, if they keep one of them as a RS, it should be DJ. He's returning from an ACL tear and hasn't played in over a year. Plus, I'm just excited to see Coker in black and yellow :D

But that being said, I want them both to play. Sit ARob in the 2nd half and let them settle it on the field.

They moved Anthony Hitchens from Safety to Running Back, so that is somewhat new I suppose. They might also use him in Special teams.

I just took some time to watch his HS film over at Rivals and I'm really impressed. I don't know if he was just always playing WAY inferior defenses but he put up over 1400 rushing yards and 21 TDs as a senior. His style and instincts remind me a lot of a slower, less dynamic Reggie Bush. He has a penchant for making guys miss and on more than one occasion completely reversed field and made a bunch of guys miss. Not a lot of power running and virtually no footage of him bouncing off tacklers, but a lot of jukes, cutbacks, and flailing defenders flying past him as they try to arm tackle him.

Robinson played like crap last Saturday. He looked like Tavian Banks going up against Ohio State. A-Rob better get his butt in gear pronto, because there are others waiting to prove their worth.

AZ whole mission was to eliminate the run and our OLine wasn't doing us any favors either. ARob will recover and put up good numbers again.

What should AR have done when that giant Samoan landed on him as soon as he took the handoff? Did you watch the game? Jewell was having more success, but other than the early 17 yd run even he only had 6 carries for 13 yds. Get a clue, man. AZ DL was in the backfield all night.

Also this probably means more PT for CJ and Herman as they probably have to keep a little bit better eye on Morse's workload to keep him fresh and availalbe for 3rd down personel packages, that means more 2 and 3 TE sets in running situations.

Remember that Log jam we thought we were going to have at RB back earlier in the year?

1.Robinson- Still standing (For Now)
2.Hampton - (ACL)
3.Wegher - (Bounced)
4.Brinson -(Bounced a long time ago)
5.Paki- (Concussed)
6.White- (Leg Injury?)
7.Johnson (Recovering from ACL, may be ready to go)
8.Coker-(Recovering from Broken bone in shoulder, may be ready to go)

8 Running backs and now we're down to 1 (As far as we know) is completely healthy. I hope Kirk and co are showing this to Coe, Miller, and anyone else we're after at RB. At this point take as many as possible and go from there.

Why all the hate for Paki he has ran well this year. May not be in the most important minutes but still. It all has to do with O line. I think Paki would do just fine.

Personally I chalk it up to jealousy and internet a hole syndrom.

It's funny, Brownlee make next to no impact on the field before or after that 7 game run. He was probably the 8th or 9th best starting RB in the state of Iowa that year, if you consider HS backs, yet he is nearly universally revered.

Paki has been a solid special teams contributer for a few years now and while not spectactular has done some OK things in the backfield, yet people bang on him consistently.

I understand that Az was run blitzing all the time but it appeared to me that ARob was not running like his normal self. Did anyone hear what might have been wrong with him?

Not worried about the running worried about the blocking, Hampton was the best blocking RB we had so thats where we miss him most.

I think people's opinion of Brownlee is different from their opinion of Paki for two reasons:
(1) Brownlee had never played before he was thrown into the mix in 2004 and (2) most importantly, Iowa won when Brownlee played. Brownlee was not very effective running the ball. He carried the ball mainly to keep the defense honest, and he did not turn the ball over. I think Paki would run the ball just as well as Brownlee did in 2004 and, as long as he did not fumble, would perform just as well as Brownlee. The problem is that many fans have a negative perception of Paki (as a RB) before he would ever be thrust into that position. So even though Paki would probably do just as well as Brownlee did, he would have to overcome that negative perception which would be very difficult to do.

Well that's all fine and well but it doesn't do much to answer the question why they have a negative perception of Paki in the first place. That doesn't just happen out of thin air.

All the guy has done is walk on here, worked hard, excelled on special teams, and played when given the opportunity.
