More house reporting Iowa has 2 early entries ....

I don't mind Wirfs or AJE leaving early. Iowa got 3 productive years out of them. No need for Iowa fans to get greedy.

The thing I hated with TJ Hockeson is that Iowa wasted a year of eligibility as a redshirt, and he was gone after his sophomore year. At least Iowa got 3 years out of Fant, minus one bowl game. Can't blame 1st rounders for leaving early. Not sure what Hooker and Nelson's motivation for leaving early. Josh Jackson and James Daniels each had a chance to be a 1st rounder, but it did not work out, going in the 2nd. Close enough I guess.

The other part about leaving early is that players are elligible for NFL free agency 1 year earlier too.
There's also a potentially ugly CBA negotiation coming up in the NFL when the labor agreement expires after the 2020 season.

A lot of moving parts are going to need to be hammered out before the players agree to play football again, and they have more medical evidence to back up some of their claims than ever. And the medical is just one issue.

Good post. Stone is a good college player, but lacks size and speed needed to play safety in the NFL. Great player for the Hawks, unfortunately limited physically to play in the NFL.
He will probably, if he makes it, have to make a niche for himself in special teams, maybe as a gunner/cover guy.

Bill Bates was too small and slow for his position, but had a decade long career as a special teams ace. I think he was even a long snapper at one point. He toiled for some horrible Dallas teams at the tail end of the Landry era, but stuck around long enough to get a super bowl ring in the twilight of his career at the dawn of the Jimmy Johnson years.

If i recall correctly Gallery had trouble with quick NFL defensive ends. His slidestep was a hair slow, and it necessitated the move inside.

I think your right, not to mention he had like 5 head coaches and as many offensive coordinators in his time with the Raiders

As much grief Desmond King gets for coming back for his senior year, it did give him a chance to work on his kick return skills, which I think has benefited his NFL career. He may not have gotten a bog payday on draft day, but I hope he gets his big paycheck in free agency when it comes.
its coming this offseason

mock drafts are not equal to NFL evaluations. we'll see.

more likely it's Stone, his combine numbers won't reach Hooker's (4th RD) and he won't be able to increase his speed enough to change his draft round.

AJE has said he bleeds black and gold. If his eval is late first/second then he will be back. 10-15 is another story.

I don't think they get that specific with their evaluations. I think they give you one of three grades: 1st, 2nd, or return to school grade.

For the players sake, I think the NFL should publish those evaluation results as a whole. Not for specific guys but make public how many grades they give out so players have more info to base their decisions on.

There's only 64 1st/2nd round selections and if they're giving out a ton of those grades to early entry candidates, its creating a false narrative. There are already a bunch of SR players who are not being evaluated that will be selected in those rounds.

True but King was probably a 1st or 2nd round pick if he didn't come back for his senior year. NFL scouts had more film to evaluate his weaknesses. AJE will have a similar situation next year where every team double teams him almost every play if he comes back. If Nelson would have come back then I think we would have seen much better numbers from Epenesa because teams couldn't double him every play. I'm not sure that coming back will truly benefit him that much as far as draft stock.

In my opinion it wasn’t film that hurt king, it was his lack of measurables I.e 40 yard dash and size. That wouldn’t have changed if he came out as a junior. It’s very possible if he left after his junior year he would have still been 3rd-5th round, we will never know.
