More ESPN Hate For Iowa

Stop it, you're making me blush. I'm honored to have a thread be about me:cool:

Florida State leads the 2014 way too early top 25 rankings - ESPN

From the article:
[h=3]21. Iowa Hawkeyes[/h] The Hawkeyes' loss to LSU in the Outback Bowl took a little bit of the luster off what a solid turnaround season. But after going 7-6 in 2011 and 4-8 in 2012, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has his program headed back in the right direction after an 8-5 record this past season. The Hawkeyes might bring back eight starters on offense and six on defense in 2014. Quarterback Jake Rudock played OK in his first season as a starter, but he'll have to cut down on his 13 interceptions. He might be pushed by backup C.J. Beathard during spring practice. Iowa also will have to rebuild its linebacker corps as each of its three starters (Christian Kirksey, James Morris and Anthony Hitchens) are departing, along with cornerback B.J. Lowery and free safety Tanner Miller. Iowa's schedule might set up very favorably in 2014; it doesn't play Michigan, Michigan State or Ohio State during the regular season.

are you Fing stupid they just preseason ranked us top 25?

While were on the subject, who determined that red means stop and green means go? Is there an individual? Did it just happen? When?

Civil engineer Dr. H. Gene Hawkins 1935, in the manual on uniform traffic control. This set both the color and shape of the stop sign. Prior to that stop signs could be a variety of colors and shapes. The green go signal was also designated in that manual.

I did some further research. Yellow stop signs were common before 1935. They are very collectable now, plus they are Hawkeye colors. I want 1 to put on my wall next to my antique Iowa license plates. The governments were slow to fully replace the old stop signs, and some of the old yellow and other color stop signs were still in use up into the 1950s.

Awesome Hawknick. While I really hadnt contemplated that question in many, many years....it sure was one that came up occassionally in living rooms where you had to cut the smoke (cough) with a knife to find your beer. And now I know.

I agree, atleast they have us in the top 25

I don't know about the rest of you, but I AM SICK AND TIRED of this "we're just little ol Iowa" sentiment. 21st is a joke. No way we can work our way up to the playoff spot when we start this low. I smell a boycott. Oh wait, I've been on an ESPN boycott for 7 years.

Dork :)

As we all know, these lists are simply based on how a team wound up the previous year. I think #21 is a pretty fair ranking at this point. With a favorable schedule, continued improvement on offense, and strong defensive line, I think next year is shaping up to be pretty exciting.

Thanks, this thread has caused me to renew my efforts to find a find a yellow and black stop sign, preferably squre shape for my living room wall.
