More disappointing regular season: 2010 football or 2013-14 hoops

And that's a fail. I said they were the deepest team since 1986-1987. I felt this year's team, at one point, was better than the 2005-2006 team. I was wrong about that.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Iowa has a good chance to finish 10-8 in the conference tonight. The 2005-2006 team would struggle to finish .500 in the current B1G. They were a solid team that took advantage of the worst collection of teams I've ever seen the B1G conference. The B1G's NCAA tournament performance that year proved it.

And he might still be right. What other teams were better?

The 3 seed team that lost to Northwestern freakin State was better. That team had a lot of leadership and talent. Horner, Brunner, Haluska, Thunder Doug...I loved watching that team.

Not going to disagree. What if this years team makes the sweet 16 or elite 8? Would you reconsider?

2010, easy, so many bonehead plays by veteran players that year.

And the stupid fake punt.

The season started with an uppercut at AZ and ended with a kick to the junk at Minny, with a bunch of bodies blows in between.

Sorry, but lets bump this thread and let us know how you feel right now. My feelings have got nothing but worse. This has been very painful, worse now.

2001-2002 basketball season is still the most disappointing thing that has happened in my sports life.

Agreed.

Recker
Evans
Pierce
Worley
Leslie
Reiner

That should have been such a good team.

Still though, I gotta go with watching seniors Horner and Brunner getting bounced from the NCAAs in the first round by SouthernNorthwest Louisiana Tech State University after winning the Big Ten and seeming on top of the world.

Football team no question. Given the amount of NFL talent on that team and playmakers no question. They had a favorable schedule too. And failed to do anything following a BCS win.

This BB team actually was more of a product of their ability than anything. Tougher schedule this year and still lacked the same issues as existed last year - no playmakers, no physicality, no pure shooters, and lack of athletic PG.

Regular season? That's a tie for more disappointing regular season.
Both teams beat the conference champion, rather handily, as well.

Whole season?
Both teams were in the Top 10.
Football team won their bowl game against the #12 team in the nation.
Basketball team couldn't win against the #11 in their bracket.
Basketball team was more disappointing.

You can pinpoint certain lynch pin, and harbinger, moments in each season where everything went south.

2010 FB = Fake punt by Bucky = loss at home. Win the next two....then lose 3 in a row to send season into a tailspin. AZ game was harbinger to season.

2013 BB = (ironically vs Bucky as well) = last 1:01 of the game. Hawks lose a lead (again)...lose game at home. Hawks only win one game the rest of the season. ISU game was harbinger to season.

I say this hoops season. 2010 football was about injuries. The entire LB core and interior of OL went down. I heard an analyst say pressure up the middle is a QB killer. Well, after those guards went down, Iowa crumbled. This hoops team was relatively healthy. They just folded.
