Miss St 23 Auburn 9

Their record reflects exactly how good they were. They got thumped by three of the best teams on their schedule and dropped a stinker to a bad Tennessee team.

Don't buy into the notion that the SEC is heads and shoulders above the rest of the world. It's cyclical argument that only feeds itself.
The four best teams in America this year (and most) are SEC teams. Don’t kid yourself. There is a reason KF doesn’t leave the house in September

Iowa also shut out Maryland, who lost to OSU by a single point.

Again, the transitive property does not apply to football. FAR too many variables to say it does.
It’s even worse in bowls as a lot more variables interject.

Auburn beat the Pac 12 champion, dude. 15 years ago, I think the SEC got unjustified love and the Big 10 was right there with it. Today, though, the SEC is just vastly superior in the trenches and on the outside. I think we saw the tide starting to turn in those years when OSU got thumped by LSU and Florida. OSU had no answer in the trenches for those guys. The Big Ten is clearly the second best conference in terms of overall depth, but the caliber of play at positions like DT and WR in the Big Ten is waaaaay behind what most SEC teams bring to the table.

A) 1 game does not equal a trend B) They still lost 5 games this year, and C) The Pac-12 was way down this year.

I'll give you Bama and Georgia being on another level right now, provided UGA doesn't lay an egg against Texas, but as usual, the SEC is very top heavy.

but as usual, the SEC is very top heavy.

What does that mean? When a 3-5 team that finished 5th in its division beats a conference champ and destroys the 2nd place team in the Big Ten West, it's pretty hard to say there isn't depth in the conference. Hell, Florida was 5-3 in conference play and destroyed a 8-1 Michigan squad that was Big Ten East co-champs but missed the title game due to a tiebreaker. You can have a pretty good team and a shitty record if your schedule is murderer's row. Just like you can have a mediocre team and finish 12-0 if your schedule is soft. See, e.g., Iowa 2015.

That was ages ago. Auburn has fantastic WR speed and talent but how many games did they lose??? They have weaknesses. If a team makes Stidham have a bad day then they are not top 10 and can be beat.

And the Pac 12 is not an overpowering conference this year and even last year. Washington is very good but barely top 10.

Name the teams with losing records in Big Ten conference play who could take down the champ of another P5 conference. I'll hang up and listen. Thx. I mean, I do remember the year (2015) where the Cats beat eventual Pac 12 champ Standford and the Cats finished 6-2 in conference play. They then went on to lose 45-6 to a 5-3 Tennessee squad.

Look, pal, I'm a Big Ten homer, but there's no freaking contest about the SEC being absolutely dominant in football right now. That said, I like PSU's chances over Kentucky because Kentucky ain't that good and we got a good draw for that game bince LSU and Georgia both drew games involving non Big Ten opponents and Bama made the playoffs.

You mean 2 loss Georgia? Or 3 loss LSU? Or 3 loss Florida? Those teams?

Just stop.
Georgia is easily the third best team. You guys have to quit getting so hung up on records. I’d guess LSU is the fourth best. I don’t think Oklahoma or Ohio st would want any part of auburn either. Based on what i saw of them, they’d likely send each of them back to where they came from

Auburn was beaten by a murderers row of SEC teams. Something we sure in the he’ll can’t identify with. Ferentz could go his entire Iowa career without playing those four let alone four in a year
