Miller is Right: It's all about Recruiting

It's time for a change in Iowa City. I don't care how you slice it or dice it. No more excuses for Kirk. The program is headed south -- in a big way. Kirk is NOT going to right the ship. It is too late. The ISUs, Northwestern's, Purdues, etc., have passed us by. Barta should get kicked to the curb for offering such a ridiculous contract. It has come to the point I don't even want to hear the excuses any more: players leaving, too slow, too passive, 2009 recruiting class, etc., etc. These all point to one problem: Kirk. He calls the shots. If we are too slow? Kirk. Players leaving? Kirk. Average assistants? Kirk. It's all on Kirk ...

Agreed

The offense is about coaching the defense is about talent. I think the talent on the offensive side of the ball is there. The problem is having a OC that limits the offense by design and a head coach that doesn't grasp the concept of urgency. Iowa's defense can withstand a lack of talent against teams that aren't dominant offensively, plenty of those. The defense doesn't stand a chance, though, when the offense punts so often and fails to put up points.

Would it be so bad for Iowa to slightly change the offense but keep the proven defense? I think it would be a deadly combination to run an offense that could score and make teams have to run 10 play drives to score.

Oh wait, that team played in 2002 but for some reason Iowa has become an offense from 1952 since that year.

You can play whatever system you want, Iowa is behind everyone else. With that being said, when I see Tanner Miller, Tom Donatell and Greg Castillo as 3 of the starting back 4 on defense, recruiting or lack there of is without a doubt the problem at Iowa.
of course players leaving or getting injured has nothing to do with it and this Graduating class was rated 75th by scout with 12 2*'s and 13 3*'s with just 5 3*'s left, just like last year there were 22 2* and 16 walkon's in the 2 deeps because of injuries. from the beginning of the KF era this staff as avg'd 12-14 2* recruits per year and 1-2 4* players and a small group of 3* kids
the last 3 year recruiting has improved to 5 4* players, 13 3* players and just 5 2* players per year
giving Iowa 15 4* recruits 41 3* recruits and 15 2* recruits with 3 of those being kickers.
this year so far there is just 1 2* recruit and 3 4* recruits by different sites with the rest being 3* recruits, and ESPN list 5 3* recruits with a grade of 79 just below a 4* grade of 80
lets let them growup just alittle before throwing them under the bus. as for the 4* only Derby, Coker and Coe who never made it because of grade are no longer here everybody else is here and some are starting or in the 2 Deeps except for this springs commits who are RS'ing
4* Ekakitie SDE
4* Johnson DT
4* Ward OL
4* by ESPN Fleming DB
4* Garmon who played this year at RB and KOR

It was like watching an episode of The Three Shadas.

The feeling, I assure you, is mutual. About 5 of you clowns have highjacked this board. I guess that is what happens when a team has a losing season.

Miller's analysis is correct. You ought to think about it occasionally.

I will say one thing; you guys are great comedians. It is a shame you can't get paid for it.

Whats even funnier is the 5 people you mention only 2 of them like each other and agree on anything, and 1 of those 2 is also one of the remaining 3 who disagrees with everyone including himself just to get stuff going. So that leaves us with 4 as one person needs to be accounted for twice. So we have 2 that agree with each other but 1 of them is 1 of the other 4. He cant be the 1 he agrees with but he disagrees with everyone. So we have 1 who agrees with 1 other, but 1 of the 3 others is 1 of them. If 1 likes and agrees with 2 but 2 disagrees with 3, 4, and 5 but 2 is also either 3, 4, or 5 who is 2 also? Is he also 3 also 4 or also 5? Follow me here....this gets good.... 5/2 = 2.5+1 = 3.5*2 = 7-3 = 4+4 = 8-2 = 6+1 =7*1 = 7-4 = 3-1 = 2/1 = 2+1 = 3+3 = 6+1 = 7-1 = 6/2 = 3-2 = 1+3 = 4+4 = 8-5 = 3+2 = 5-3 = 2+4 = 6/5 = 1.2*2 = 2.4-3 = -.6 (almost done) +4 = 3.4/5 = .68
What is .68, well thats the average amount of yards Iowa gained on 3rd and 4th down combined in 2012.

Thank you today's math lesson was brought to you by the letter Troll.
