Miller: Ferentz for Life

Great article, Jon, and very good replies! I want to expand on a couple of items mentioned.

1. The Boss mentioned that KF doesn't make the same mistake twice. I couldn't agree more and that is why I am not as worried as some about the Arizona game. We have been down that road before and you can tell that it really bothers KF that we played so poorly down there last time. I would be surprised if we don't come out and take it to them.

2. I can't remember what poster mentioned this but I don't necessarily think we have to get lucky with our next FB hire after KF retires. There is a certain amount of luck with any hire but there will be plenty of "KF Guys" to choose from when we get to that point. Coach K appears to be developing into a high quality FB coach so I wouldn't be surprised if he were ready at that point. There will be others with Iowa/KF ties as well. I am not worried because our FB program has now become one of the Top 20 jobs in college FB because of the success KF has had.

Go Hawks!

Very good piece! Thanks for reminding us what kind of a treasure we have in Kirk Ferentz. He is everything I want in a coach and more.

At Iowa, in my opinion, it is about more than competing at the highest levels athletically... it is about competing at the highest levels both competitively and ethically.

Agreed. Think seriously for a moment about how we'd feel if RichRod had been at Iowa the last few years. Michigan football, besides being the nation's winningest program, has a strong ethical legacy their alums are very proud of. We can mock their "Michigan Man" comments but its no different from "Always a Hawkeye", and most of you know Hayden and Kirk held the highest respect for their coaches and staffs under Bo and Carr. If you talk to their alums, the current hijinks are absolutely killing them, and I can appreciate that much more in light of Kirk's extension and its implications.

Not that I wouldn't enjoy beating them 34-9 on any given Saturday.

We are very fortunate.

Iowa is a special place to its alums and they realize that this is not a place that people leave. They settle down in Iowa, and it gets in your blood.

I'm not from Iowa, and I don't live there now. I was in Iowa City for 4.5 years.

So why did you leave? Great post, I'm just sayin' :)
