Miller & Deace: Best game in Years for Iowa

If Davis has agreed to embrace a new philosophy now.11/1/14.. Ferentz is the most patient man I've seen.

Is this really a watershed moment for Iowa football or a one off game? Was Ferentz crazy like a fox in holding back on Weisman until now, realizing that November was a gauntlet and he needed him fresh and healthy? If Iowa lost against NW, I think it could have been a turning point on Ferentz's long term legacy; everyone would have been seriously down on the state of Iowa football, easy schedule, mediocre results and so on. Now that the Hawks have crashed through that hurdle, this Minnesota game has become a turning point for this season. Win on Saturday, and I think they breeze through Illinois, setting up for a crazy two weeks at the end of this month. Just keep your foot on the gas pedal Hawks.

Gracious analysis by Mr. Miller and Mr. Deace. Thank you. The Iowa coaching staff deserves the kudos and you handed them out.

What is truly interesting about this season is Iowa probably DOES NOT have to beat the Gophers (although it sure would be a great win). We DO have to beat Wiscy, Nebby and Illini.

My reasoning is that Minnesota, even if they beat Iowa, will lose 2 of 3 against Ohio State, Nebraska and @Wisconsin (probably a safe assumption). That gives them 3 losses and eliminates them.

If Iowa loses to Minny but wins the rest, we finish with 2 losses but win all the tiebreakers against Nebby and Wisky.

I think for the psyche of this team, it's imperative to beat Minnesota. I think it would go a long way if they can duplicate in consecutive weeks what they did against NW. If they could, it might legitimize how good they can be. I think getting a good start to this month is crucial because this team really hasn't found themselves up to this point & can't really afford to go backwards.

But, breaking down the numbers-wise, you are correct, It is possible to lose to Minny but that's just less room for error.

Felt like 80's all over again, against Wildcats we just dominated them in all phases of the game.

This. Winning the next two games, and doing so with a similar offensive gameplan as last week's, is critical for building momentum going into Wisky/Nebby.

I actually think that the Goopher game is even more important to win. It is the key game of these last 4. I don't want to assume we beat Illanoy, but it does seem like a good possibility. kNU and WUs play the week we play Illanoy. That means we will know before we play WUs which team we have a 1 game lead over. I don't think we want to have to play WUs and kNU being one game behind one of those two. Beating the Goophs and Illanoy affords us a chance to still win the West if we stumble against either WUs or kNU. I don't know the tie breakers but this could wind up in a 3 way (or even 4 way) tie. Win 'em all, and forget about having to worry about tie breakers.

Minnesota is a huge game, big rivalry game that means something this year. Whoever wins is that much closer to winning the West plus it will tell if our run defense has gotten any better. We have 3 elite RBs coming up and the first one plays for Minny.

Beat Minny by being the bullies again and shutting down Cobb.

IMO if we can't beat Minnesota we will finish the season 7-5. I just don't see Iowa beating Wisconsin or Nebraska. Northwestern victory hasn't sold me completely just yet and still think best we can do is 8-4. I have Iowa beating Minnesota and Illinois to finish 8-4..

Iowa can definitely beat Wisconsin and/or Nebraska. It's definitely going to be two tough games especially Nebraska, but they are both at home and likely in the cold and it'll be old school hard-nosed football. Anybody has a chance in those types of games especially if Iowa can keep the momentum up.

Every game this year is a huge game. At least that has been the message each week on HR. I can't wait for the "Illinois is huge" thread in a week.

"yet to play" means teams that are on their remaining schedule. Not teams they've already played this year.

MN is the worst team IA has yet to play, if they want to make a run it is a must win this Sat.

Minnesota has six wins this season and ISU has two. If you think Minnesota is as bad as ISU, or worse, you are truly clueless. It doesn't even matter who the Minnesota wins are against. ISU cannot even dream of having six wins.
