I get what you are saying. Maybe I am wrong, it feels as if she is being singled out just because she is a female. It is a mid-tier Big Ten team against a MAC bottom feeder you weren't exactly going to get the A team. If two dudes were calling the game this probably isn't a thread no matter what level of their suxiness.

Totally agree. The Wire analogy is a good one.
 
Mid Tier Big 10 my foot, not this team. This is a team that should get the A team announcing the games they are in. Also BSU is not a bottom level team in their conference. Last year they won 10 games and went to a bowl.

Well since she was put with a black guy I can only assume when you say "put her with a 'decent color' guy" you mean she should be put with a white guy.

Her voice is terrible to listen to.....just like Pam/Pat Ward's voice. Mannish/female voice for some reason does not sound good calling a men's college game. Heck, it is annoying to listen to during a women's game.

Can't explain it, other than it is like nails on a chalk board.

This is fair......something other than just saying she suxs for the h*ll of it.

Guess I am just not that caught up in the announcing aspect....I know Chuck did the color on our game, and Jones did the play by play.....was Jones that much better?

I guess it is just me....two women have done Big Ten football in my memory, Ward and Mowins...and both are disliked by many fans...so I guess it is a 100% failure rate for women....what is the failure rate on the men?

There is a non-sexist, psychological effect at play in that these women are both sucky and have distinction (being female) which makes them memorable.

Imagine some an announcer that is extremely peculiar. He has a Duck Dynasty beard and wears a monocle, top hat and denim jacket on the air. Furthermore, imagine that he also is fairly poor at job... bungles names, doesn't have a strong grasp of football strategy, etc. If he were announcing the game this weekend rather than some other random under-the-radar schlub, we'd probably all be like, "Oh gawd, beardy-monocle guy?"

In a sea of sucky apples, the sucky orange stands out.
 
I am not a fan of hers. That's not a slight to her ability or knowledge of the game. It is simply odd to me to listen to a female for a whole game when watching a man's sport. That said, I do respect her for breaking into the industry where she was pretty much set up to fail and hasn't. Eventually over time this probably won't be much of an issue and we will be able to judge announcers equally based solely on ability and charisma and not their sex. Until that time, kudos to Beth for sticking with it but I'd rather listen to someone else.

So what would it take for a female to get a pass to be a solid play by play announcer? Is it the good ole boy, country club mentality, no matter what it aint good enough?
 
What I would like to hear would be a female version of Jim Zabel. Not as far as the sound of the voice but in how the game is called. I like the way that he described the plays. Maybe he has a granddaughter. I could listen to it all day long!

I agree. The last guy they had her with was just as bad. Can't rem his name...Chris? Anyway he was a D back and did nothing but spit out cliché's. I could tolerate her but couldn't stand him.
 
As annoying as her voice is, it doesn't hold a candle to that nasal nosed high pitched irritant named Erin Andrews.
 
Beth called the UCLA game late Saturday night. Iowa City, Piscataway then....weekend in Westwood.
