Mike Gessel

I never said he doesn't play against D1 talent. I said he isn't going against a big ten team. Also those 2 d1 football recruits are just that, football recruits. I don't know a ton about them but do they have any big name bball programs that have offered? I also stated MG will be a good player for Iowa I just think a lot of fans have way too high of expectations for incoming freshman. I think it's fair to give the new guys a year to get acclimated to D1 bball before we expect a lot from them

Take a wild guess as to why he isn't going against a B1G team this year.....

:D

also ESPN makes mistakes on players names
they just put this out there that "Trey McNutt" will be leading Iowa tonight
they are supposedly the Professionals and they really screwed up
so why can't simple posters on a msg board screw up without being ripped on a spelling error

so you are saying football players can't be good BB players
tell Hamilton and McNutt that, not to mention CJ and several others

Man some of you like to twist whatever u can around. Of course football players can be good at bball but huge difference from being good and good enough to get a d1 scholly for it.

His videos and reports from those who have seen him play.
Believe me I am anxious to get Clemmons and Ingram in the house. Clemmons is in the top 5 players in Michigan and some say he is Number 1, Ingram is a super talent that is very impressive and will push for playing time from day one. Clemmons is a lock down defender that can sky on even 7'0 centers. He is maybe the most exciting player to come in next year. Ingram is just a very solid, high IQ player that is unselfish. He can score or he can dish and he can defend. He is one of the top players in Indy and will get playing time immediately. Don't take my Gesell endorsement as a no knowledge thing. I have watched some of the most talented players in the country over the last 40 years up close and personal. Gesell has that "thing". You want the ball in his hands regardless if he is a freshman or a senior. He will not be a work in progress. We do not have a project in any of the 5 coming in next year and I could go on about Meyer as well. I saw him play in Atlanta a year ago and he is amazing. He will contribute as well. We have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.

Sure, football players can be great basketball players (Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, and Charlie Ward come to mind). But D-1 football recruits are not, by virtue of being D-1 football recruits, good/great basketball players.

Kind of like how all squares are rectangles, but rectangles are not squares.

Very nice post, Radman, MG certainly appears to be a complete player, and should have little difficulty adjusting to playing on another level. He has already proven himself against the best HS players in the country on the AAU circuit, along with Adam. He seems to have it all, and could very possibly rank with BJ Armstrong and Ronnie Lester by the end of his Hawkeye career.

Agree about the rest of the incoming class. Fran has put together the players he needs to implement his offensive and especially defensive schemes.

:)

Dorial Green-Beckham is the #1 recruit in FB
and he has offers from over 15 D-I BB schools such as Iowa, Michigan, ND, OSU and others but is a 3* BB recruit
it is my feeling it makes more sense to go play the sport you may have a better chance of playing in the Pro's

i am not sure how you can say players that choose fb in college rather than BB
would not turn into good to great BB players?
Tractor Trailer was a 6-8 285 lbs center for Michigan pretty good size for a tackle in the College game so size and weight is not the problem

updated stats on Gesell's game last night
37 pts
12-19
1-2 3 ptrs
12-13 ft's
pretty good showing against #1 team in Aizona

I watched him play against Corona last night and I have been a Hawkeye for 40 years. I have seen every player Iowa has brought in during that period and I will say this, Gesell is the best PG I have seen coming to Iowa including Oliver, BJ and the rest of the pack. There is no question in my mind that if he were at Iowa today, Cartwright would not see the floor accept for a spell here and there. Hasn't played against D-1 talent? He played only D-1 talent over the last 3 AAU seasons and was one of the best against them. I am not annointing him the "Star" of the show next year, but Marble will be a two and May will play very few minutes.
Found it!! He is an amazing PG and we will all be happy he chose Iowa.

Most of that weight was due to Grandma Traylor's Sweet Potatoe Pie!!
