Mike Gesell - Iowa Freshman Assist Record

12 games in, 43 assists.
Down to 3.58 A/G

Clemmons - 40 assists. 3.3 A/G

Got to believe it won't happen for either guy. But if we can combine their stats they will destroy the record. I see clemmons ending with more than gesell. He is much more of the old school type pg instead of the new style combo or zero guard. I prefer the clemmon's type.

take out the WSU game where he had 0 assits and he is at 3.9 apg with 43 thru 11 games
in my opinion for a pg he tries to shoot to much this hurts the distributing the ball to other shooters.
we have plenty of options for scoring use them,
last I knew he was recruited to be the PG not the SG.
against South Carolina St. he lookedf to distribute the ball more and his shot 2nd
in myopinion this team does not need a Woolridge type PG that has to score.

There's a reason Fran is playing him at he 2 a lot. Horner looked to score a lot, too. I don't think it's a big deal, especially with Clemmons on the roster too.

So you're saying he is a chucker?

Your opinion is wrong again. Without Clemmons shooting, we lose the ISU game. Without Gesell shooting, we lose the UNI game. Having a PG that can score is always a bonus.

Let me guess, you are one of those people who think the Oklahoma City Thunder would be better off without Russell Westbrook? lol.

Also, Woolridge had to score? You realize you're talking about the guy who left Iowa as the all-time assist leader, right? Has three of the four best individual seasons for assists in school history, including the top two. He also has the best average (5.9) out of any of the top 10 in career assists. The fact that Woolridge could score doesn't mean he had to in order to be effective.

I think that's a byproduct of him spending so much time at the 2 spot playing alongside Marcus Paige in AAU ball.

I don't think that's a bad thing, either. I'm not exactly a big Westbrook fan, mostly because he will sometimes just keep chucking when his shot isn't falling. THAT can hurt a team (see: Korie Lucious). But Gesell has shown pretty solid discipline so far. If he's not hitting, he's not shooting. When he's hot, he rides it. That's exactly what you like to see out of any player. When he's off, he doesn't look for his shot as much as he looks to set up others. When he's got the hot hand, the offense can run through him.

I've played basketball with horner (recently) he still likes to pass more than shoot

However I can't say I really care too much about freshman assist records.

Leading the league, career ect.... then ya i care.

As a freshman, Horner shot it 238 times in 31 games. Gesell has 87 shot attempts in 12 games...divide 87 by 12 and multiply by 31 gets you 198 shot attempts...he is shooting the ball far less than Horner did as a freshman.

Horner was a true scoring point guard. He could take over games as a passer and shooter. The more I watch gesell I see more of a 2 guard that has point guard height. He passes better than most 2 guards. Clemmons is our best point guard...I think in the last few games since he has been starting and how the offense and defense seems to be working more cohesively proves that. Either way I would say we have much more solid play from our 1,2,3 spots (especially with marble at the 3) than we have had in awhile. This is a statement combining the 3 spots and their overall play as gatens was a great 2 guard for us and individually none of our 1-3 guys are at his level yet.

I think Marble is better now then Gatens was at this point of his senior year. Last February Gatens was better then Marble now.

Clemmons looks to have a better shot to break it than Gesell lately.
Neither probably won't with how the distribution of assists is working out.
