Northwestern Hosts Historic 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championships Dec. 29-30

Northwestern University EVANSTON, Ill. (Sept. 9, 2013) –
The 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Selection Committee has announced that they will be conducting a national search for the 15 best post-collegiate athletes.

The Midlands has a rich history of allowing post-collegiate athletes the opportunity to compete for a coveted Midlands title.

"The Midlands will once again represent some of the best talent in the nation,†Northwestern head coach Drew Pariano said. “We already have several world team members and past NCAA champions interested in competing at the 51st Ken Kraft Midlands. Restoring the tradition of having post-grads compete is a major focus of the event."

Northwestern’s own Tim Cysewski won five Midlands titles during his illustrious career and three of those titles came after Cysewski’s collegiate career had ended.

“Every accomplished wrestler wants to add a Midlands title to their resume. If you look into the history of Midlands, you will find that there were numerous Olympians and World Medalists who not only won our tournament, but went on the win multiple NCAA titles,†Cysewski said. “The Midlands Championship is a defining moment in a wrestler’s career.â€

Northwestern hosts the 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston from Sunday, Dec. 29 to Monday, Dec. 30. Tickets can be purchased here.

Each post-collegiate athlete should follow the instructions listed on the application form here.

Those individuals who are past Olympians, World Team Members and Midlands Champions will receive first consideration.

Direct shot at the Southern Scuffle, IMO. Midlands needs to gain momentum, and regain it's crown as the best mid-season tournament.

i hope so. Midlands was a shell of what it used to be years ago. i'd love it if they could get more post collegiate guys back there to wrestle this year and the future.

I would love to see JayBo, Keddy, McD, Perry, Ereckson, Metcalf ect. I would spend my whole paycheck to attend such an event. Good job Midlands!

Hopefully this helps Midlands get back on track. Still hard to compete with Southern Scuffle when they have Penn St, Okie St, Minny, and Cornell participating. Sounds like Oklahoma also pulled out of Midlands and will be attending Cliff Keen.

tough to dig themselves out but if they can get some top notch talent this will bring in a good following
