Michigan State to Rose Bowl

Dantonio is building his "machine" with recruits that michigan lost while Dickrod was there. He recruited the south so Dantonio got a lot of instate and Ohio kids that UM would probably have gotten. They will decline in the next few seasons now that Hoke is at UM, IMO.

This sums it up nicely. Michigan kids had to go somewhere while RichRod was struggling in Ann Arbor.

I think programs like MSU, Wisconsin and Iowa will always follow the same pattern. They'll have 1-2 seasons of Title contention then fall back to the middle of pack for a couple seasons, and then rise back up briefly.

I think MSU will be the favorites next year for the division. While they do have to play at Michigan and Wisconsin they get Iowa, Ohio St and Nebraska at home and their D returns 19 of the 22 in the two deeps.

While their O losses a lot, their D will be one of the best in not only the Big Ten but the country. They will be a lot like the Iowa teams that won 10 or 11 games and will lean on their D to win games and their D should be good enough to do that.

That would be true if Iowa really did have 1 - (2) years of Title contention.

Wisconsin and Michigan State have now truly had back to back years of Title contention.

We've never had back to back years of title contention... sorry.

I'll hold off on MSU until next year to see what they do without Cousins and most of their receiving corps.

Don't use "We", please.

Also, Iowa was in title contention the last 3 years.

As for Back-to-Back titles, no we have not had back-to-back title years in the KF era.

whats this we **** clown, go celebrate your victory troll

You dont want to be instate with Michigan as your rival. You will always be the other team in the state no matter what. The best thing that happened to MSU were the years Richrod was in town. Hes gone now, so its over for Sparty in Michigan.

MSU takes a HUGE hit to graduation going into next season. They graduate 11 senior starters that were the most successful class in MSU history. That's gonna be a big drop off. Kind of like Iowa took going into this season except they don't have a viable QB. Michigan on the other hand just will get better. Think the division next season will look like this:

LEGENDS
Michigan - No question, the best in this division with great coach and talent
Nebraska - Martinez returns and good recruiting class and skill positions
Northwestern - Iowa could be here but NW looks to be improving and continue to replace QBs with better ones.
Iowa - NW could be here but Iowa takes a bigger hit with graduation of our best players, DL is atrocious next season and McNutt is gone. Poor recruiting shows again as freshmen/sophomores not ready yet
MSU - the biggest dropoff in the conference in terms of talent, going to be similar to what Iowa experienced without benefit of down conference or experienced QB
Minnesota - still have another year of rebuilding before move up

LEADERS
Ohio State - Urban Meyer + talent = instant success
Wisconsin - big hit to graduation too but benefit from mess of teams below them
Purdue - only here if Hope is still coach
Indiana - young talent got lots of experience plus benefit from mess in this division
Penn State - new coach staff, mess left for years
Illinois - Zook is gone

NW above Iowa? No.

ESPN did a good piece several years ago on the most overrated and underrated teams over like a 20 year period. They took into account when they started in the top 25 and where they finished and where they finished when they didn't start in the top 25. Michigan State was at or near the top of the overrated list. They have always been able to bring in their fair share of talent and yet they seldom realize it. So no, I am not really too scared of what MSU is going to be like in a few years.

Hoke is already a great coach? He's good, but he's only had 4 winning seasons in 9 years of coaching. They bring back 12 starters next year, but as long as DR is the starter, they will have trouble against some teams.

Nebraska's problem is that Martinez is returning. He's about as frustrating a QB and you can get. Still, they bring back 16 starters, so they should be better next year in spite of him.

NW is replacing QBs with better ones? So Colter is better than the best QB in school history? They bring back 11 starters, but only five on offense. Considering that is the only reason they make bowl eligibility, they might have to worry.

Minnesota only brings back 9 starters and with losses like McKnight and Bennett, will they improve much?

Sure, we only bring back 12 starters with only four on defense, but I think next year's division race goes late into November like this one did.

Does this scare anyone else. Dantonio is building a machine. We already have Nebraska and Michigan to deal with, we rarely beat NW, and Minnesota has beaten us two times in a row. The last thing we need is Michigan State to land a few top 20 classes in a row.

I'd rather see Wisconsin or Penn State in Rose Bowl.

I wonder if there was a similar thread started about 2 years ago on the MSU board concerning the IA football program? Now look at us...just trying hard to be bowl-eligable

Michigan has a WORLD of a different schedule next year.. 5 road games and 1 neutral in Texas against BAMA.. wouldn't be surprised if they take a step back after their schedule this year with only 4 road games total (8 home)..

Trying hard? We have been bowl ELIGIBLE for two weeks now. Even in a really good year like MSU had last year, they go spanked in both of their losses.

MSU will lose at least two early entrants off that defense to the NFL ...Worthy and his d-tackle mate. That right there makes them a different team. And they lose a bunch on offense with a decimated o-line depth chart.

NW loses a bunch of guys in their lines also,as well as Ebert,Dunsmore,Persa,Peters ect. They will drop off next year.

Nebraska loses Dennard, and David, who are top NFL prospects. Their defense is full of holes after those two guys. On offense, they will be similar to this year, which mean having a QB who cannot pass, and could get hurt on a dozen different plays every game.

Michigan will be the favorite in the Legends, with Iowa as the second choice...imo.
Vandy leads the Big Ten in passing yards right now,and will clearly be the best returning passer in the league. Ball will go pro, leaving Coker as the leading returning rusher. Iowa's offense should be the best in the league. Defense? Work in progress.
