Michigan State game

This is like cheering for a team because your son is on the roster. You show up and cheer because you are obligated, but you know to expect to be disappointed with the outcome.

Moral victories shouldn’t be the bar.

I'm still going down with the ship. Game is at home so there remains a sliver of a chance. If they won it would be the biggest game of the year for the men. Still pulling for those guys no matter what.
This is the correct position to take regardless. Now you may or may not think Fran's days have come and gone, but what does that have to do with not cheering on the players?

I have been busy all day and finally got home from a busy day and just remembered the game tonight. I googled the score and was disappointed with the final score. Had I been home during the game I would have watched it and been cheering the guys on.

While I think Fran's time is drawing to a close, if he does come back and keeps the players he has, plus that transfer from Miami, and those two freshmen studs, Iowa could be damn good next year. There is an infusion of talent coming, but again, he and Beth have to commit to each other and hold on to all the pieces. Tall order with deficient NIL and fan engagement.

I've been a huge Iowa men's basketball fan for years. I'm in PST and had a work happy hour I needed to attend yesterday afternoon, so when I got home I could watch a recording of either game (didn't know the outcome of either game).

Two things that struck me later. It never even entered my mind to watch the men's game. I just wanted to quickly start watching the women's game and try to catch up on the long text thread I saw from my high school buddies about it.

And also, while I didn't watch the game, it sounds like there is zero quit in Fran's team. He's coaching hard. They are playing hard.

One of the tougher hurdles for her is going to be that pretty much every casual Iowa fan wants Fran gone BAD. These are the fans who typically don't know about sports or any of the dynamics like recruits and current commits, difficulty (and high stakes) of coaching changes, etc. These people see "losses bad = coach bad, new coach fix problem..."

Those people outnumber hardcore fans who actually know how sports work at a deep level 100 to 1 I'm guessing and she has to in part listen to them too.

I do think it's probably time for a change. I wish Fran would just retire, but if he doesn't want to it's going to cost the same amount of money but just drag out longer. I also think there's going to be like 2-3,000 people in the seats next year if he does come back, and some of that is an opportunity cost to consider. Even if a new coach sucks, at least for the first part of the season you're going to fill the house and make a little of that money back.

I used to never not watch a game whether live or DVR, and this year I've maybe watched two live and all the way through. This year I've mildly skimmed most of them on DVR and some I haven't watched at all. Some I even forgot were on until I saw highlights pop up somewhere. I just have zero interest in it and it's not a fun product. I always hope they win but it's just not engaging to me anymore. I'd imagine those passive type fans haven't probably watched a game after the first couple weeks.

I might be a severe masochist because I watch almost every game

It is a sickness but at least it cures my positivity

At least I have that to look forward to

I watched first half of mens, switched to ladies but switched back to men’s for last 6-7 minutes. Saw where MS was in bonus plus, but we still needed fouls to get. Figured Izzo got the calls in 2nd half, as usual. Based on Frans post game comments, sounds like he wasn’t real happy with officiating
