Michigan is cheating

So...again. Exactly HOW...were they "stealing signals"?
sign stealing during the game is allowed and commonplace. advance scouting opponents isn't allowed and what they are being accused of. (essentially what the pats got caught doing a few years ago)

110% guarantee you Iowa players and grad assistants are doing the exact same thing every game.

That said, eff Michigan.

Ann Arbor’s a whore.

at a game? or scoping practice?

How can you possibly say they can't attend/watch a game played publicly and likely on TV?

Sounds like they've got a scapegoat on the staff they want to pin it on... Which is convenient of course. The whole HC doesn't know anything really doesn't fly because what's the point of doing all that? To get that information and have it be relayed to those that can benefit from it I would assume. So that's going to get to the players and Ole Harbaugh isn't going to know anything about it? Nobody should buy that nonsense. So yeah I'm sure he's got a guy on staff in charge of it but that person didn't take it upon himself to do it. He was instructed...

No, no, no, that is not how this works. It's just like when Louisville basketball got caught paying guys. The whole system isn't rotten, it's literally just one bad apple. That assistant from Louisville was making almost $40k per annum and he just happened to have copious amounts of cash to pay to recruits that had nothing to do with the program or boosters.

It is rather convenient that Harbaugh comes in with a splash, but basically plays second fiddle to OSU for his first 4-5 seasons, then all of sudden they turn the corner and beat all their rivals. He has been caught cheating at least two other times.

Sign stealing is huge. If you know what play is coming, even BF could coach his way to victory there.

So, I wonder how long this has really been going on, and I bet at least 2 years.

Also, also, the one coach theory is dumb. For this to make any difference, at least one person has to study the opponents signalers AND then relay that information to their playcallers to defeat the signalled call. By definition you have a conspiracy here, gents.

"Did not know" was not a defense for Sean Peyton and should not be here. Harbaugh should be gone.

Louisville got there instructions on how to build a program by watching Blue Chips.

It's the corrupt world of college athletics folks. In business, the professionals call this creative destruction. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being "much about nothing" the "infraction" rates a 2 in today's world. It's naive to think this sign stealing really changes anything in the long term view.

Disagree. If the DC knows what play is coming, its an unbelievable advantage. Its part of the reason Iowa's offense has always been crappy. Iowa's offense is predictable. If you know, and I mean KNOW, a draw is coming, or which direction a run will go, or whether its a screen pass, there are specific defenses to defeat those plays.

Now, like the cheating Astros that new when a fastball was coming, you still have to hit a 95mph fastball. But, its a huge advantage to know what is coming.

You did a good job of laying out why there's rules against it. It's just that cut and dry.

In Iowa's case it just doesn't matter. They've been predictable for so long now be it formation and down and distance situationally Iowa is the easiest program to scout and find not just tendencies but exact ones. No cheating is needed to figure Iowa out just do a little homework it's all on tape. Dochterman awhile ago had a story on it. It was wild. Like 70 % plus of the time out of some formations and down and distances we'd run the ball or do something specific. It's insane to thing how little self scouting can come up with that yet Iowa is more than ok with it.

You can watch a game on TV and get the same info. Silly rule. What's done out in the open is free game.

Yeah, this is a big deal. Huge actually. As a southerner now, I have a big rooting interest in the teams in the region. I'm a huge fan of Alabama, Clemson and Georgia, but Alabama is my favorite. Been a big fan for years, who doesn't love Bear and Nick? Alabama got boned out of the playoff last year for a fraudulent TCU team, but when you see TCU just absolutely turbofvck Michigan you can't help but wonder if TCU maybe didn't have just absolutely ridiculous OpSec on their signs and ask just how bad Michigan would be without the signs.

As fans we really got ripped off. That Georgia-TCU game should have rightfully been Bama-Georgia. One of TCU and Michigan certainly didn't belong and given how bad TCU throttled Michigan I'm now starting to think it was Michigan who was the pretender who only got there through cheating. This is actually a really big issue for the integrity of the game.

So how exactly were they "sign stealing"? If they're spying on closed practice...OK. If they simply have a guy attending the opponent's game...give me a break. Anybody in the stadium (and often on TV) can see what they're doing.

Let's hope the softness of baseball isn't invading football.
This.
So, 70,000 fans and players (and coaches) from BOTH teams are allowed to watch their two teams play in-person -- while both teams are sending in signals -- and fans can record video of the game on their phone. But ONE rep from a 3rd team is not allowed to attend in-person, sit in the stands and record the game on video....a game which is broadcast to millions on national TV?
How does that even make any sense?
It doesn't -- it's a stupid rule.

A ticket to a game is a license to watch it. It is not a license to record it. Accounts, descriptions and images from the game are not to be rebroadcast, retransmitted or replayed without the express written consent of Major League Baseball.
