Mich messageboard Iowa game thread

Dean I didnt bring up the Nebrasker game. I just responded. I think you are being a little hard on me. Just because we dont agree about kirk doesnt mean Im totally nuts. People really need to calm down on here. Unless kirk is your sister you should not get so bent out of shape about what OUTofMYMINDHAWK(shoutout to doclee) thinks about Kirk.

And again Im not on here to try to make anyone mad. Im not here to troll. If I was here to troll I would do it on more than just one topic.

Lets look back at a game thread of the 2002, 2003, or 2004 season, or the2008 or 2009 season, or the 2010 Orange Bowl. Or better yet enjoy one of my videos praising what KF and the team accomplished.

To take a game and blow it up like that is the sum of 14 years is silly. I'm not sure what is up with you lately OOTH, but you are no longer a poster who makes some decent points, and have come fully unhinged.

While this is true and I largely agree with you, at least one point brought up by the UM fans that HAS been present for 14 years is the pathetically poor clock management. I can really only think of two games in which Iowa successfully put together effective late game drives (Purdue 2002 and MSU 2009). And even when we were good, I can still see Tate with his hands on his hips, visibly frustrated because the plays were coming in at the speed of smell.

You brought up this old thread.

My point is, that you can't say 14 years is somehow all encapsulated in one game, in one of the worst years of that time frame. You know that, and I don't think I am being hard on you about this. I think you are wrong, so I am challenging you. I am not a kool aid drinker, and I give credit and blame to the head coach. You like to credit Norm for the good years, and blame KF for the bad ones (where was Norm during the bad years anyway?) It is really the oddest thing, as most praise Fry for his coaching tree, and most pat a head coach on the back when they have great assistants. You somehow think that Norm hired himself, and ran the program or something....very odd, very odd indeed.

And I didn't even have to think for those so there is probably more.

Just because Iowa didn't score touchdowns doesn't mean they weren't effective late game drives. Iowa didn't need a TD in these games.

Hell you could throw the game tying drive in Columbus in 2009 in there. IIRC, Iowa scored that TD with less than 3 minutes left.

Why do I care about what a Michigan fan thinks? I sat next to a guy right in a bar in Atlanta right before they played Alabama and he spent 20 minutes explaining to me how Michigan was ready and would win by minimum 2 TDs. He was so convincing...yet still a homer. It was kind of fun to watch them get physically man-raped. I'm not sure I'd use another fan base to make a point...unless it's Iowa State. Those guys know their stuff.

Ive said many times that Kf has been paid in full for bringing in Norm. I hope they are not paying him to read a clock.

Other than the first couple of years how many bad defensive units did Norm have? Even in the bad years his defense has still been good. The only thing is they are on the field the whole game, so some people cant see they are good because KIrk hangs them out to dry.

I've been to most games in the Ferentz era and certainly defended him as much as anyone, but I think we are at a crossroads. Last year's offense was a complete disaster. We looked poorly coached in almost every game on the offensive side of the ball. I know Ferentz is trying to change the offense, but we need to show some progress this year and next year. Right now, I'm more concerned about execution and philosophy than wins. If the execution improves, the wins will eventually come. THIS TEAM NEEDS TO EXECUTE ON THE OFFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL. Watch Northwestern play. THEY EXECUTE. The Cats play a beautiful scheme, and Fitzgerald somehow gets playmakers on the field. If the offensive execution doesn't improve this year or next year, I think Captain Kirk needs to ride off into the sunset into a nice retirement.

Those Orange Bowl vids got me fired up for the season.

Also, I believe that song was in Borderlands was it not? That was a good game.

Regardless, Iowa's clock management has been pretty poor on the whole under Ferentz. We've picked up delay of game penalties while running the no-huddle, for Christ's sake.

This is either the result of a site glitch, or an all-time classic random bump!

Nothing random about it. The guy goes back into history to bump this thread, and comments, then it sits there for a day and he has to go bump it again to try to get some reactions....that is so lame and weak, it is ISU fan quality trolling. Some fans just have a 24/7/365 raging hardon for KF and today is another day to tweak him. It is like a fulltime obsession. Way more obsessed with KF than with the actual football games themselves. Sad.

Ill give Ferentz credit for one thing. Finding a ton of talented players that allot missed. His stretches of 02-04 and 08-10 were some of the most talent laded teams in the country.

It would have been hard to not put up good records with most of those teams.

It doesn't change that fact that Iowa, for the most part, appears consistently clueless on the offensive side of the ball compared to just about every other staff in the country.

Support KF or not, I don't see that as even debatable.

I think KF's biggest crime is probably this - from '02-'04, he gave us the impression of being a great coach (maybe the best). As it turns out, I think he is "only" a good to very good coach.
