Meyer and OSU sanctions

Meyer must know OSU will not receive very harsh penalties or he would not have taken the job. I am thinking just a slap on the wrist,
 
How would Urban Meyer know what the NCAA is going to hand down on OSU? Do you think he contaced the NCAA before he took the job and asked them to tell him what sanctions OSU would be receiving? And then do you think the NCAA actually told him the punishment they were going to hand out? Not likely.
 
What I am hoping for is OSU goes to a bowl this year and sometime in early January the NCAA announces that OSU will be receiving a 2 year bowl ban along with a loss of scholarships.

See how much of a dream job it is for Urb then.
 
If Ohio State gets a slap on the wrist, the NCAA is gonna get rolled and deservedly so.

I could see a two year bowl ban and scholarship reduction, on par with USC at the worst. The fact that they basically got rid of Tressel will help their cause some...so I suspect bowl ban for next year, fewer scholarship reductions than what USC got.

Jon- Do you think the NCAA will announce the sanctions this week so OSU could serve a bowl ban this year?

Also, if OSU accepts a bowl invite and the sanctions are handed down sometime between then when the bowl is played can OSU back out of the bowl or would the ban have to start next year?
 
I don't think the NCAA told Meyer anything. I think there could have been some sort of leak. I just think Meyer would not have taken the job if he expected severe sanctions.
 
The NCAA has to walk a fine line when dealing out punishment to the big name programs in college football - and OSU is certainly one of those programs.

With the power, conference networks, and revenue now involved the NCAA has really become a toothless tiger and has played a great game of bluff poker for a while now.

What would happen if some of these top shelf Universities banned together and told the NCAA to eff off? What could the NCAA do about it?

That's why, in my opinion, you will never see an SMU type death penalty laid on one of the marquis programs.

What USC got and what OSU is looking at are nowhere close to SMU types sanctions. I dont think anyone is expecting OSU to receive those types of sanctions nor do I think anyone really belives that OSU deserves those types of sanctions.

Not really going out on a limb there by saying that you wont see an SMU type death penalty ever again.
 
Even with the coming sanctions, I think Urban had more than 4 Million reasons to take the job. He knows they'll be back on top very soon, even with the sanctions. Look at USC... they're VERY close. I won't be surprised if they make a run next year.

When you say basically you mean? Gordon Glee their school president saying 'Im lucky he doesn't dismiss me' or O$U handing out a three game suspension to Tressel for knowingly breaking & covering up an NCAA violations. Than JT wanted to look like a man with his men and said if they have to serve 5, I'll serve 5 games in my suspension( mainly cause the public wanted blood )

Jim Tressel didn't get fired, he retired. That's right, retired with full benefits and went to the NFL.
 
if OSU gets a 2-3 bowl game ban, that will give Uban a 2-3 year pass
but the heat is on in year 3 or 4 tp have this team back at the top
i pity him if he loses to Michigan a couple years in a row

My guess would be that Meyer has an extremely good idea of exactly what the sanctions will be and that tehy will be light.
 
Folks, would you rather OSU serve a 1 or 2 year bowl ban starting this year, when they are 6-6, or starting next year when Meyer could have the ship righted already?
 
I say this, either Meyer knows there will be sanctions so he likes that cause there will be less pressure or he knows O$U is getting off light as usual.

1.) TATgate: Coach knowingly does something wrong and covers it up. Coach retires and goes to NFL. Pryor forgoes his senior season as he promised to return and sit 5 games, instead he signs a million dollar contract and goes to the NFL.
2.) Booster admits to giving out cash envelops after tatgate
3.) Players get caught with jobs that are paying for work that they didn't do after tatgate
4.) Pryors bank account has deposit statements from a booster that already warned him about, this was during tatgate.

I don't know after watching that video, that I posted in another thread I'm pretty sure these guys get off light. Holmes broke a girls jaw before the Michigan game, didn't start but played and was later found guilty. Look at all the stuff they've gotten away with in the past. I'm sure there's a money handshake with someone in the NCAA and these guys get the bare minimum if that. One thing I know about politics is Ohio is one of the most scandal ridden states throughout the beginning of time, doesn't surprise me now after seeing all those things in that 'OSU Scandals' YouTube video that it has trickled down to college football
 
Sanctions would be a + for anyone taking the OSU job. It lowers expectations, and provides cover for not winning the B10 title the first 2-3 years.
