Mel Kiper Big Board (QBs)

Nate definitely needs another year.
That said, the wr and whoever is going to play te needs to be working with him every single day.
In the end it benefits them both.

So, if Hock leaves with Fant, I'm not quite sure it is smart to stick around unless the NFL reps tell him to absolutely stay at Iowa. He's clearly not ready for the NFL, but he's gotta look out for himself. In the end, he really might be screwed either way.

Completely agree, but I gotta imagine his advisers will tell him to come back and try to get into the top 2 rounds of the draft. Usually 2nd rounders get at least 2 years guaranteed, 1st rounders are fully guaranteed. After the 2nd round only your signing bonus is guaranteed

Stanley has got the arm to be in the NFL, the problem is he doesn't have the accuracy especially on the deep ball. He had countless over throws.

All comes down to the NFL's favorite pastimes: the underwear Olympics and fawning over measurables.

Intangibles aside, Stanley will do well in those areas, which is why the pros are interested.

Correct. You have to be able to put the ball into a 2x2 or smaller window to have a legitimate shot as a NFL QB these days and Beathard is the only guy to have come through the program in a long time who could do that. Stanley ain't even close.

I'm pretty sure this ranking means they never actually saw him play this year. There is no other way to explain this.

That is a safe assumption. I think Kiper just looks at a few preseason lists, scans some stats, then regurgitates a number. Hell, I remember reading some thing he did in a magazine back in the '90's and he had a big write up on Leland McElroy being a NFL star due to his insane 40 speed. I don't think he knows much more than a rabid SEC or Big Ten fan. Probably less, actually.

49 TDs to 15 picks by Nate in career. Amazing. If anything I would say his picks had been too low. Not taking enough risk with the ball.

I'm pretty sure about 40 of the touchdowns are against the non conference schedule and Minnesota, Illinois, and Indiana too.

Aside from the monster game against OSU, his TDs against "decent to good" teams are significantly lacking. In 2 games against each of PSU, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Purdue, he has exactly 2 TDs against each opponent and 0 in one game against MSU. So in 9 games against what I would consider middle of the pack to good B10 competition, he has 8 TDs. In 5 games against the teams you named, I think he has 17 TDs.

Jesus Christ Nate Stanley is not going to play in the NFL. He isn't even an average college qb, Was he even honorable mention in the conference? Yet people think he's going to succeed in the NFL? He is the equivalent of a MLB pitcher that throws 99mph and has no clue where the ball is going. He is a head case, and cannot handle any pressure whatsoever, so imagine him facing an NFL defense.

Can't get it to paste very well, but Nate is in line or above last year in most stats and we thought he was pretty damn good last year. This year without a real run game and a game or two with a bad thumb on the throwing hand.

His stats are very padded against absolutely awful teams. Look at what he has done against even average to decent teams..... Not much. Bad thumb? He was no good long before the so called bad thumb.

Will there be more Iowa TEs drafted in the first round than QBs overall???

3 or 4 will end up going in the first round because NFL teams will convince themselves that guys like Josh Allen or Josh Rosen are first round talents. It happens every year.

Look on the bright side at least he is able to perform against someone. We could be stuck with the alternative. I agree that Stanley is a game manager style QB. He isn't going to lose you many games from his play and isn't going to go out and win a game which is what Iowa needs with the style of play they employ. Too many close games the last two years where if we had someone that could go out and win a game could have cut that number in half at least.

Not sure if that is something he is going to be able to develop because I believe that is something you just have. CJ had IT Ruddock did not which is a big reason why CJ got the nod and the coaches finally saw that. Not everybody has that IT factor and I think it is tough to recruit to that as I think it comes out as players mature so being able to tell if a senior in high school has It would be difficult.

Some QBs in the NFL somewhat luck out that they can have 2-3 really good wideouts and a really good TE on the field at the same time. Plus in college receivers get mugged all the time, we should start doing it more, but in the NFL, which really stands for Number of Flags Large, wideouts get all the advantage.

So, some NFL QBs have receivers wide open all game long.
Some other qbs are not so lucky. Big Ben has had some great receivers, and you can name the others like Brady.
