Meet the All-Iowa Male Athlete of the Year Finalists

Too bad Trent Johnson wasn't 4-5 inches taller. What an athlete with accolades. I was like who is Trent Johnson then read up on him.

I see Wirfs has the 3rd best shot put time nationally at 67 feet. Does AJ throw the shot put too?

Is it just me or is Wirfs one of the best and borderline underrated recruits in this class? He just seems like an absolute stud and heck of an athlete for as big as he is.

IMO, yes.

Barring injury, I think he will be ab NFL lineman.

I bet so. I didn't realize he was pushing 315 and is able to do what all he's done. It just seems like he's flown under the radar with AJ, Mansell, and the skill guys all getting the pub. When it's all said and done he may be pretty close to Scherff.... If he's even in that discussion holy cow...

He has flown under the radar for many folks, partly for the reason you mentioned. O-line isn't really a position of need this season.

I'm a really big Wirfs fan, though. He's very agile for a guy his size. He was one of the best baseball players on his team in addition to the three sports for which he's more known.

We could be in real good hands at OT moving forward with Wirfs and Jackson.

Yeah even shortly after Jackson committed I'd heard how coaches thought he was a big mold of clay they couldn't wait to work with. Now that he's filled his frame out a lot he's got all the potential in the world of being a stud. Absolute steal of a 3 star kid he is too.

I believe he shaved significant weight to get DOWN to heavyweight. Is he back up to 315 already? I hope I am wrong, as it is difficult to put on significant weight that quickly and still be good weight.

That I'm not sure about. I just read that he was around 315 when he was playing football. Since track he might be someplace inbetween. 280ish and that. He'll most likely RS this year so it's not a huge deal where he's at day one at Iowa. He'll become an absolute stud before he's done that's for sure.

Oh I totally agree with his potential. What is max weight for high school wrestling heavyweight? College is 285. Same for HS?
