Wonder if any interesting tidbits will come out from it. What I'm most curious about we just won't know till they've played a few games. I want to know what the starting lineups gonna be and the rotation. Stirtz is obviously gonna be the main guy and probably rarely sit. I heard Ben on the radio yesterday bring up how well Koch did in a scrimmage going 7-9 shooting. This team is pretty deep with guys 6-7,6-9 type of guys like him so keeping everyone happy probably isn't going to be possible. For a new coach it's probably the exact kind of problem he'd hope to have.

One tidbit that I read was that Trey Thompson has exceeded expectations so far and is looking very good, at least offensively, so far. Defense is where he will have to catch up.

Also, Isaia Howard is coming off a strong end of last season and has looked the part so far. i.e. making a jump up from his freshman season.

Talk about an X factor... If he's what he's hyped to be it's gonna be tough to keep him off the floor let alone redshirt.

I haven't been able to find much about it, but I heard on the Hawkeye Report pod that Iowa played St. Louis in a super secret match over the weekend and by the sounds of St. Louis beat writers, Iowa got stomped. Take it for what it's worth - I personally think this could be a difficult transition for Iowa basketball and I hope some fans are going to be patient. IMO, this roster is not nearly as talented as last years but I am hopeful they are better coached, which could make Iowa better in the long run, but maybe not out of the gate.

Hype is never a good thing.

I almost wish new coaches would just come out and say, "Here's my personal roadmap for expectations year 1, year 2, year 3, and year 4."

I'm not going to kid myself thinking all those different goals will be met, but at least it's realistic.

I also know that no coach would ever do such a thing because they'd never get hired anywhere. Hype sells tickets and brings in donor checks. I mean hell, the hype is working on me, lol. I watched maybe 5 games passively last year total, and this year I'll probably triple that just out of sheer curiosity. I will say I have zero expectations. Just from how these things normally go I'm guessing it's going to fall far short of the hype, but I'll watch.

Ben also said he was going to use these scrimmages for situational scenarios and not really worry about PT etc. Like, you know Bennet didn't play that much and he'll likely rarely leave the floor this season.

I agree that the hype doesn't always match the actual results. But I am more interested enough. It's got me thinking of purchasing a mini package of 3-4 games this year. Sort of a tryout to see if I want to get season tickets next year.

I look for attendance to be up quite a bit this year. My hope is that the team gives the fans enough this year to raise expectations for 26-27 even if this is not a banner year.

Yeah I'm not gonna pay any attention to that scrimmage we don't know who all played/how much. Just seems pointless. I'll wait till I can see how they look in a game where it counts.

Not the best news here I just saw about Banks getting arrested. I'd seen on X rumors about it and sure enough...

Yeah definitely not good if it was with staff.

If it was a drunken local yokel college kid starting shit with him that's at least understandable at that age, but there's a pretty good chance he was hammered, got told to leave, and then went Karen on the staff.

Is Banks good? Like starter or 6th man? I have no idea what any of these players are like.

Agree not a good look at all. Yeah he was 6th man for Drake he only started 1 game last yr and avged 10 pts 5 rbs while playing 20 mins/gm pretty much.

He's a big piece of what Iowa is going to need this year, that said, not the first dust up in downtown IC for a student athlete. He'll likely sit out a few games we won't need him for to start the year.

Run BMC seems like the kinda guy who'd put a stop to that kind of shit anyway since he knows him well enough to bring him along to IC. In other words he doesn't strike me as the kind of coach to make a habit out of having problem children on his roster.

Right, and his whole thing is that his players are in IC to serve people...and that means everyone. That's his philosophy, doing things for others selflessly. He'll have a strong hammer, but again, imo, not too much to worry about with what our first few games look like.
