Mccauley: Iowa in top schools

MCCAULEY'S FAB FIVE

McCauley, on his top five wrestling moments:

1. "Moving to Apple Valley to wrestle with the best team in the nation."

2. "Winning a state title as a seventh-grader and being the first ever in Minnesota to do that."

3. "Being the No. 1 recruit in the nation out of all the weights."

4. "Winning a Pan-American championship as a cadet and junior. I was the outstanding wrestler of the meet as a cadet."

5. "Winning the Fargo Freestyle national championship as a cadet and junior, and also being selected the outstanding wrestler as a junior."

But he should pay attention to the next order of business the Sensational SIX Moving to Iowa City to wrestle with the best wrestling team in the nation."

Interesting that Okie State is out of the running also. Iowa, Ohio State, and Wisky fighting for his services. Should be interesting.

Should be fun to watch this recruiting process. Of the top 3 on this kids list, his best shot at a team tile will be IOWA, but it doesn't seem like he is all that interested in team titles.

Looking at the head coach of each program is interesting. They fall all across the spectrum:

Tom Brands is intensity personified, vocal and animated.
Tom Ryan is (comparatively) much more even-keeled and controlled during matches.
Barry Davis falls somewhere in between.

I would say that Barry Davis more animated than Tom Brands. If you've ever met Barry he is like that pretty much 24/7. He is a GREAT guy but very animated and intense all the time. Heck, Tom is the less animated of the Brands brothers. :)

That being said, I don't think that Barry would be the main reason that he would pick Wisky. I think that Pritzlaff is one of the biggest rising stars in the wrestling world and I would be surprised if he wasn't the head guy soon.

i wonder why he's so against red shirting. Maybe so he can get done w/ school to have time to make a run at 2016 Olympics? Otherwise what's the rush?

I heard this morning that Destin's list is 1. Ohio State 2. Wisconsin 3. Iowa in that order. We have an uphill battle to land him.

My take is if we wanted to make a big run at Destin we would not have went after Baldosaro last year. He looked at the time to be a 149 and Moore will have no problem making 157. Too much money tied up and too many roosters in the coop already. I'm not sure after the $$$ we put into that weight area last year it would make sense to spend a huge chunk on another guy. Wisky and fosu are both sitting with much less money and obstacles tied up around his projected weight.

I think a lot of people have forgotten about Baldy so to speak. If he can make 49 he will be pretty good. I really like Baldy and from what I have heard he is the closest to being college ready out of all the new recruits. I have heard he is very thick and will be battling with Moore for 157 in the future so if McCauley decides to go 149 we could really use him. Carew will be at 149 and is pretty good in his own right but honestly I feel McCauley has more of a upside.
