McCall confirms departure

Does it matter who we have / don't have other than Coker? He is the only one that will see the field next year other than Rodgers to block for him. Maybe he can get 1,500 yards and we can finish 6-6?

Apparently many do not realize that no other team in the country features a FB at RB who takes 2.5 seconds to hit a hole and 5 yards to hit top speed. Coker is a nice back, plays hard, is durable....lots to like, but featuring one back, any back, is lazy coaching. One less RB to fight over those 40 carries available to people not named Coker.

Experience has shown that Coker is just one play away from a season ending injury. We always need back up running backs.

I am taking my ball and leaving, because I can't have my way. Guys like that will have a hard time growing up and becoming good citizens.

jewel hampton v 2.0 Over hyped and unproven.

Were you not watching Iowa football in 2008 whilst backing up Shonn Greene Hampton rushed for just over 5 yrds a carry and scored seven TD's and thus proved he was capable running back?

Not in sync with the program? The guy gets hurt the first game of the year after he looks like an amazing player. He works his tail to get back to playing status...the staff then ignores him for several games while running our one back into the ground with no respite. He plays and fumbles and never sees another minute of playing time. Out of sync...hardly, a better explanation is not being given the chance. Ferentz will run a kid into the ground before playing other guys.

Would have been rather difficult to get him another minute of playing time considering he was suspended after that game.

That is one reason for the shape of the program, young players not being given the opportunity to play or loyalty to older players, whether a younger player deserves to play or not.

And here many of you are saying good riddance and just a few weeks ago were telling all of how great he was and was going to become. Now he is a hasbeen...perhaps it is the coaching staff that are the hasbeens?

This kind of stuff is easy to say when you know nothing about what happened behind closed doors.

Exactly. The willingness of the totally uninformed to make definitive statements never ceases to amaze me.

I for one am good with his decision to leave! He did work hard to get back. Had to be more to the story here. Good luck hope the kid learns and finds success. He would have been a good one based on the small sample we have to go off of. Has talent for sure seems like difference of opinion here and frustration of not getting what he thought was earned/deserved.

Well said.. I would like answers to this as well but we will never see it.

So using this logic, is it safe to assume Bullock, Canzeri,, Johnson, Rodgers and White can't play? What did these guys do to deserve a year long benching? We finish 7-6 and return one back with any legit game experience. That/

As alway you have no insight to what was going on. For all you know they weren't playing him because he wasn't mentally ready to go. Then when they do out him in he fumbles the handoff proven he wasn't mentally

Look at CJ, it took him til halfway through his SO season before he self admittedly "got it" mentally. I think KF has been pretty steady over the years of making kids give their all in practice before seeing game time.....this isn't the NBA and Allen Iverson.....practice, practice, your talking about practice, not a game, not a game, but practice???? Well that attitude doesn't cut it at Iowa, and I for one am happy about that....if McCall doesn't want to be here, then good luck Mr. McCall wherever you go.

See ya McCall. Hello Greg Garmon. That's unfortunately the way college football works.

There was a time, that college football was never like this. You chose your school, and stayed 4-5 years. Too bad that today's young players have a show me the money attitude. They all think they are above rules etc.... When things don't go their way, they leave. Looking for greener pastures. I guess I would like to see how all the transfers out, how they have actually done since leaving Iowa. Anyone have the time to research all those who left?

I think the coaching staff handled the kid **** poorly after his injury and don't blame him for leaving.

Good luck to him I hope he can grow up. People blaming this on the staff are nuts. The kid was suspended indefinetley Kirk doesnt do that just because he doesnt like you. And idk if we will ever find out what mccall did.

It amazes me the amount of people who coddle these kids. Just look at this board, and how many think McCall got "screwed over" because he didn't get into 2 freaking games coming aff a broken ankle......what is their answer.....screw it I'm leaving, that is McCalls answers, and would be the answer of many on this board. The mental toughness to take setbacks in life is pathetically weak these days. If you want to talk about real injustices in life and overcoming them, how about a kid who has cancer, and has to battle that, or any number of real obstacles in life. Give me a break, the kid didn't get into 2 football games, and you all think he should quit....that is pathetic....

Man up or see ya! He made his choice. Entitlement is a disease. Kids like that are not the type of player this program needs. Team chemistry and strong leadership were the qualities that stood out during our most successful seasons. Life's tough, life's not always fair...how one deals with adversity defines character. McCall sprinted for the door - good riddance. History suggests McCall ends up mid-major then fades away.

I hate to see a Chicago kid walk away bitter from Iowa, Iowa is just starting to take advantage of that pipeline. But rules are rules and if you come to Iowa expect to abide by them. If you do, and you have the talent, you have a great shot at being an awesome student athlete with chances of even better things.

It's too bad that McCall is taking his pouting attitude out the door. But Iowa has some good running backs, Coker, Canzeri and now Garmon. Next year may not be bright at every position, but running back isn't the problem. *yet.
