McCall confirms departure

Not in sync with the program? The guy gets hurt the first game of the year after he looks like an amazing player. He works his tail to get back to playing status...the staff then ignores him for several games while running our one back into the ground with no respite. He plays and fumbles and never sees another minute of playing time. Out of sync...hardly, a better explanation is not being given the chance. Ferentz will run a kid into the ground before playing other guys.

That is one reason for the shape of the program, young players not being given the opportunity to play or loyalty to older players, whether a younger player deserves to play or not.

And here many of you are saying good riddance and just a few weeks ago were telling all of how great he was and was going to become. Now he is a hasbeen...perhaps it is the coaching staff that are the hasbeens?

<<(N)ot being given the chance>>

Um...he SHOULD have been redshirted, but WANTED to come back. How is that "not given the chance"?

And yes, fumbling at the goal line WILL lead to reduced playing time.

But...the kid went and got himself suspended. End of story.

To your point, the reason McCall played so early was because Coker got benched because he fumbled the football. A running back fumbling the ball is as close to a mortal sin as best I can tell with Ferentz.

This is true but MAN did the look good filling in. I know it was against Tenn Tech but he ran the ball hard and hit the holes fast. It was a big disappointment to see him go down with an injury and it was amazing he was able to work his way back and be able to play. But the rules are the rules and if he breaks them he should pay the consequences. I know it sucks but it may have gotten us Garmon.

Anyone who just ups and leaves because of something this minor was probably not a good fit for the Iowa program anyway.

I wish McCall all the best in finding another BCS program who will take him in.

Shonblatt, I assume you're wrong. McCall's leaving was over something other or in addition to being prevented from playing because of Iowa student code violations.

Unless you want to tell us you think Iowa recruiters made a horrible call when they signed McCall? That would go from Erb all the way to Ferentz.

EDIT: maybe Iowa recruiters need to inform Iowa recruits of the bootcamp-like atmosphere at Iowa?

Which Big Ten schools are in better shape at rb next year.
Ball will go to the NFL at Wisky. That leaves White, and newbies.
MSU will have Bell and his mates....I give you them.
Iowa has the leading returning rusher in the league.
They have Canzeri,DeAndre Johnson,Damon Bullock and Greg Garmon behind Marcus.
The coaching staff clearly was ready to play McCall a lot last year, but he got hurt. No one else was quite ready. Next year,we will have more guys ready,so the load will be shared.

McCall clearly did something to get suspended. That is troubling, and now his decision to bail out completely speaks to his character. Time to grow up,young man.

Nowhere in your rambling, incoherrent response did you approach anything that could even be construed as a rational thought. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Seriously is McCall like your son or something?
Pretty sure McCall got suspended last time I checked, wasn't like he stopped getting carries all of a sudden because of one fumble. How bout uh....... the suspension he got?

Say what you want about Ferentz and all the crap behaviorally thats gone on with the program, etc. The one thing everyone should be able to see is that he's pretty consistent, if you screw up, you sit, and have to prove to the team you deserve another shot by changing your behavior. That's exactly what we should want out of our coach.

DJK- messed up horribly his butt got booted
Coker- messed up he sat
Colin sleeper- messed up, he got sent home
McCall messed up, let me say that again since like half the posters on this thread apparently missed this fact, MCCALL MESSED UP and got suspended.

Sorry fellas I don't live in video game fantasy college football world, I live in a little place i'd like to call, reality. And in reality (you shouldn't start a sentence with And) McCall didn't stop getting carries because he fumbled, that was one game, Mccall stopped getting carries, because McCall messed up and got suspended.

Burkhead>Coker
Although they might be in trouble if he went down.

You know the grammar police are bad around here when someone calls them on themself

I think the coaching staff handled the kid **** poorly after his injury and don't blame him for leaving.
